Snapshots at St Joe (Part 1)

One of our fellow schoolmates and a regular visitor to this website was back in Kuching and at St Joe over the weekend, when there was a Food Fair being held at the canteen area. He took the opportunity to take a few photos. Thanks Leo!

For those of you who are not based in Kuching and have not been back for some time, these may bring back memories ...

The main entrance

Former Junior Science labs, now Admin office

William Tan Auditorium

Form 3,4 and 5 block (or at least it used to be)

The Form 6 Science & Library block

Well folks, that's it for now ... There are a couple of other photos, which I'll put up later. Enjoy.

  2. Good memories. Just got to show a new coat of paint, makes a lot of difference. I noticed some of the classes and offices have air-conditioned units. Surely not all classes have them installed? I see the library, staff offices and science labs? (if they are still same) have them. Looks like there are spaces created for parking (sign of times), where we used to assemble to before going up to our classes at Form 1/2

  5. What about photos from outside the woodwork workshop. We used to hang around there during our lunch break when we were in Form 3 upwards. Monkeying on the chinning bars (if they are still there). From our classrooms, we were able to look out for STS/SBS girls walking pass after classes in the afternoon. Are the bike sheds still there? I remembered I used to ride my brother's bike to school (riding without licence!!!), whilst in Form 5 - never got caught. LOL

  6. Talking about playing fields, can you guys remember my head injury whilst we were in Form 3. We finished our first day exam (English paper) and we were messing around on the playing fields, playing different "sports". We all decided to gather round and see who can throw the longest putt. It was during Nick's turn and his putt landed on my head. I was taken to the Red Cross (named chnaged to Crescent) room and was later taken to the hospital. Were you one of those Red Crescent members? I never thank you at the time. Nick did apologised and which was duly accepted but only after 35 years. I think he owed me a meal for that and those who were trumatised at the time...lol. Need to consult George on that. It was a scarry moments at the time and thanks to those who came to visit me at the hospital with flowers and grapes (sightly over exaggerated on the flowers). If you remembered also that I had to have my hair all shaven off. The nurse who did the shaving remebered me for many years after that. After recovery ( after a few weeks in hospital), I went back to school wearing a cap to cover my botak head and the stitches. To this day, there is still a dent on the right side of my head and a scar. You never know, I could be a successful accountant or a doctor if not for my disability!!!! (that is my excuse....hahaha).

  7. It's good to see that the accident hasn't affected your memory, John. And your writing skills are as good as ever.

  8. Sorry, John, afraid any claim would be long time-barred by now. But if you keep telling the story on this blog, maybe Nick will buy you a nice steak to keep you quiet ... hehehehe

  9. PS: Sorry got the year wrong. I think it might be whilst we were in Form 1 or 2 and definately not in Form 3.

  10. Better to be a doctor or a lawyer, John. Accountants are overrated and underpaid. And boring.... (I should know.)

    Fabulous pics, btw.

  11. Leo, re: John's question about the woodwork workshop area and the chinning bars, did you manage to walk to that side of the grounds? I guess a lot of that space might be occupied by the new block. Did they spare the chinning bars?

  12. Wow, John is asking for photos from outside the woodwork workshop, the chinning bars (if they are still there), the bike sheds atc.
Well, be careful of what you ask for becos you just might get them. As you all know by now, Website Jaga's resources are enormous. Stay tuned.
