OK, so I'm taking a chance with this posting. You guys showed that you had a ... emmm ... sensitive side ... when you composed those two-line poems for the earlier post "Going Upmarket - Poetry Sharing"
xxxxxxxxx
Now take a look at the picture shown above. This easily recognisable structure has been dubbed "The Love Bridge" by past generations of students of the two schools it connects. At first glance, it's just a physical overhead bridge. But it's really more than a physical bridge. It's the embodiment of heightened emotions, torrid romance, sweet memories, sizzling desire and all those other warm fuzzy feelings ... everything that makes a good subject for a spot of poetry, don't you agree?

To get you into the mood, here's a piece adapted from German lady poet, Petra Yasmeen Baroness von Schleinitz.

Building a Bridge of Love
Feelings of love
Feelings of understanding
Two soules made for each other
A mighty wild road between us
Different families
Different schools
Different cultures
Too many people,
too many fights
Two silent soules looking sadly
Each one on the other side of the road
Hearts are flying across the tarmac
Love will be building a bridge

So c'mon, guys and gals, don't be shy. Showcase your innate literary genius, your poetic prowess ...
xxxxx
As added incentive, I'm sure I can find some of the rich towkays or towkay neos among the members or friends of Form 5 (1976) to sponsor a prize for the best written piece.
xxxxx
Over to you ...

ReplyDeleteChildren Learn What They Live
By Dorothy Law Nolte, Ph.D.
If children live with criticism, they learn to condemn.
If children live with hostility, they learn to fight.
If children live with fear, they learn to be apprehensive.
If children live with pity, they learn to feel sorry for themselves.
If children live with ridicule, they learn to feel shy.
If children live with jealousy, they learn to feel envy.
If children live with shame, they learn to feel guilty.
If children live with encouragement, they learn confidence.
If children live with tolerance, they learn patience.
If children live with praise, they learn appreciation.
If children live with acceptance, they learn to love.
If children live with approval, they learn to like themselves.
If children live with recognition, they learn it is good to have a goal.
If children live with sharing, they learn generosity.
If children live with honesty, they learn truthfulness.
If children live with fairness, they learn justice.
If children live with kindness and consideration, they learn respect.
If children live with security, they learn to have faith in themselves and in those about them.
If children live with friendliness, they learn the world is a nice place in which to live.
Nice one, KCK. Not related to the Love Bridge, but still good advice.
ReplyDeleteLoves travel across the bridge and walkway
ReplyDeleteDown the path and into the school compounds
Sometimes it get tangled, twisted, blocked
Confused, or disillusioned,
But it is very seldom dull!
Hi Jaga
ReplyDeleteSo far the most comments were made on " Another Form 5Sc class of 1976" (54..) leading the "Snapshot of an EVEN FURTHER past" by 1...
Interesting!!
I guess the "girls" attracted more comments....Ha Ha..
Good observation, CLK. Another trend is that ever since the ladies started accessing the website around mid April, our visitor rate has shot up to about 120-130 per day, from its previous level of 60-70. Go figure.
ReplyDeleteThe ad banner on the love bridge is very apt. It is from TM for Internet service streamyx, suggesting that the link is now not just physical but digital. 21st century stuff, cool man!
ReplyDeleteGood on you girls...keep coming as the boys need your input and visits. Ha Ha...Comments are most welcome. Perhaps even suggestions to topics of interest?
ReplyDeleteHow about some photos of Then & Now?
WHO CAN SEE THE LISENCE PLATE ON THE BLACK CAR??? MAYBE LUCKY - CAN BUY 4D OR TOTO OR SOMETHING.
ReplyDeleteWatch the bridge
ReplyDeleteFeel the itch
Walk the bridge
Eye the "bitch"
Cross the bridge
You are beached!
Here I sit
ReplyDeleteIn humble bliss
Watching the bridge
Eyeing for the next hit.
Now and then
My heart tensed
Sadly again
It's not a dame.
Now and then comes a
Wondering when's the next hit
(sorry ... forgot to erase the draft ... ignore the previous). It should read:
ReplyDeleteHere I sit
In humble bliss
Watching the bridge
Eyeing for the next hit.
Now and then
My heart tensed
Sadly again
It's not a dame.
She glides across
ReplyDeletesweet in blue and white
sashaying with coolest grace
despite the warm sunlight.
He strides across
uniform sweaty and damp
laces undone, satchel torn
carrying a broken bicycle lamp.
Eyes meet shy smiles form,
spirits rise above
hearts racing wildly
on the Bridge of Love.
Hey, FY, that's pretty good poetry. Now stop hiding behind a pseudonym and let us know who this talent among us is.
ReplyDeletewah, nice one! can rhyme some more!
ReplyDelete(* with apologies to Shawaddywaddy *)
ReplyDeleteLet's go for a little walk
across the Bridge of Love
Let's sit down and talk
under the Bridge of Love
I wanna tell ya
That I love ya
And I want you to be my girl
Little darling let's walk
let's talk
under the Bridge of Love
Across the road
ReplyDeletethe intrigue lies
Across the road
my imagination flies
Over the bridge
the lasses abound
Over the bridge
my fantasies are found
Across the road
lie beauty and grace
Across the road
my favourite place
Over the bridge
my beloved does call
Over the bridge
my love, my dream, my all
My father, who linked me to this blog (he's one of your classmates, I suppose) was a Josephian and my mother was a Teresian and I was a Teresian! This entry made me smile because apparently this bridge was where my parents met. I myself had a wee crush on a Josephian while I was attending the school, and used to take this bridge just so I could catch a glimpse of him. Oooh form 1...
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely little story from Anon above. So romantic. Alas, I have no such tales to tell.
ReplyDeleteAi yah.... sure or not. Don't be shy.
ReplyDeleteIt is better to have loved and lost rather than not to have loved.
Don't believe ? Ask JL.
Agree with KC. Such a sweet story from Anon May 14 11:09PM ... Keep 'em coming.
