Then & Now - Part 1

This is the series of posts that I wanted to do since I started this blog !!! I know you guys will be sporting enough to send me two photos - one when you were younger (in the 70s or early 80s) and another of you in more recent times. Hey, look at it this way - it's better that you send me your photos voluntarily than for me to find some shots of you on the Web or something - which may not be as flattering looks-wise :-)

I've kicked off this post with some shots I already have in my archive. Thanks guys for being my guinea ... I mean stars. Ok, ok - I promise to also include my own 'then & now' photos.

You'll also note that I only reflect your initials, to make it more difficult (tho' not impossible) for these photos to be Googled. Anyway, I think we don't need to spell out the names as most who view these pages would be familiar with all the characters.

Here's our old friend CLK, whom we only recently reconnected with. "Then" was around 1979 in London. "Now" is a recent photo taken, I believe, in Canada. Hey LK, I must say that apart from the hair, you haven't changed that much at all. Ever prosperous looking. Must be the freezing Canadian weather that's keeping you well-preserved.
xxxxxxxxxx
Next we have JK. "Then" was also in London around 1979. "Now" is Dec 2008, also in London. Hmmm, we can still discern the fun-loving teenager in the good doctor's face, but what happened to the mane? Or is it a case of "Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow"?

Here's HBC, our brilliant friend from Form 5. You've probably seen both photos in other entries in this website, but until I get other shots, they will have to do. "Then" was taken at St Joe in 1976. "Now" was taken in KL in early 2009. Looking good, BC.

And then we have our old friend PC. "Then" was taken in London in the early 90s, as I don't have an earlier photo ... (PC, that's your cue to send me some old photos :) "Now" was taken in Dec 2008. Note how PC likes to tilt his head stylishly to one side while posing for photographs. Old habits don't change easily.

True to my promise, the last pair of photos comes from Website Jaga's own album. "Then" shows JY in either 1978 or 79 and taken while living the bohemian student life in London. "Now" is Feb 2009. Try not to laugh too hard - the years have been kinda rough, ok? ;-)

Well, if you enjoyed viewing this post, remember to send YOUR two scanned photos to the Website Jaga (jslyong@hotmail.com) . Don't miss the chance to document your 'then & now' looks for posterity. This series will grow as I receive or find more photos. Remember to come back often and check it out!

  2. Lip Kee looks different from his days in the Red Cross

    ReplyDelete
  3. Perhaps it was the marching exercises that make him look different. By the way, was it Red Crescent then? or was it Red Cross? I could not recall.

    ReplyDelete
  4. ONE OF THE MOST INTERESTING ENTRIES SO FAR. WELL DONE. MORE ! MORE !

    ReplyDelete
  5. The photos 'then' of CLK, JK and JY are not what I can remember of them back in Form 5 - the difference is in the crewcut that Bro Columba imposed on us back then compared with the fashionable shoulder length hair ala David Cassidy that they immediately grew as soon as they got away from Bro Columba's scissors!

I agree that this post is the most interesting so far. Hope to see more of the guys [and gals if they will send in their photos]. This is really connecting, man. It's great.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Maybe I should direct Bro Columba to this website . Remind him of how much he cramped our fashion sense :-) Bro Columba does make use of email, you know.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Bro Columba doesn't know about this website??? Someone should tell him about it! Let's have one of him, then and now too! He's definitely still looking good. Saw a pic of him ['75 class website] autographing his own pic in Ad Astra '76.

  8. Yeah, HBC was brilliant alright. Don't you think it was pretty boring how he got 1st place in every exam since primary one? LOL.

  9. I remember PC as the ticklish one. Ha ha ha.

Your comments on CLK, Red Cross & marching reminds me of an incident about him.

We (I was Red Cross as well) were at rehearsal for parade at (the then) Central Padang representing SJS Red Cross, the contingent next to us happen to be a female team and CLK had eyes for member who was hmm.... pretty well endowed ... hehehe CLK commented so... well, I do hope that CLK reads this and remember the incident. Cheers.

  11. Now that you mentioned it, I kind of remember. But who was the female attraction? name? was it something Ling? or was it someone from Green Road school?
Who is this? Cyril? Sim? Kuek?...I am curious...
    CLK

    ReplyDelete
  12. Wow, recollections of well-endowed female attractions from 30 years ago? Watch your blood-pressure, boys :-)

    ReplyDelete
  13. JY,it would appear that you're still leaning to the left.I will try and find a pic of me in London circa 1978. PC

    ReplyDelete
  14. PC, you still ticklish as before? Isn't it amazing that a personal trait can be so outstanding that your classmates can remember it 33 years later? Now that Anonymous mentions it, I too recall that you were very very ticklish. Can't remember how we know - did we tickle you? LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Sigh...can't recognize all...

    ReplyDelete
  16. CLK, your 3 guesses of 'Cyril? Sim? Kuek?'.
I take it you mean Cyril Moh Mee Kai, Sim Kay Guan & Christopher Kuek right?
    Well, 3 wrong guesses.
Guess on. Likely that it is someone you cannot recall.

As for the female subject, cannot remember if she was St. Teresa or Green Road.
    Name cannot be recalled either.
    Cheers.

    Thanks,
    Sinos

  18. Terima kasih, Tuan Sinos. Happy to keep it up, but must appeal to you and all our other form mates reading this to send in their 2 gambars to jslyong@hotmail.com, so that the series can continue ... All for a bit of fun lah !

  19. The exchange between CLK and Anonymous (Mar 19, 12:56 PM) reflects very clearly how the MALE MIND works. Her name - can't remember. School - can't remember. I bet face also can't remember, but well-endowed CAN remember even after 30 over years.
    - a lady (shaking her head in disbelief)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hey, lady, at least we remembered SOMETHING! At 50, we hold tight to whatever little memory we still have ... hahaha. You gotta salute 2 old geezers who remember an incident at Central Padang at a Red Cross meet 33 years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I am still curious as to who this person is....Are you from our class of 76?

Also, lady, please......I am sure you do not remember the smiles I threw all around that time..eh eh eh???

(Nodding my head in belief, and smiling...)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Somehow i have a feeling that this mysterious person who knows so much about Red cross is Philip Tang? Paul's( who played hockey with me at St. Joe, a couple of year senior to us) brother?

or is it "K..Chai" who was from Padungan area then...

    ???

    ReplyDelete
  23. Anonymous March 20, 2009 10.58 PM

    You are CLK right?

    Philip Tang - wrong.
K..Chai - you mean Kueh Tin Chai (our senior) or his brother Kueh Thiam Chai aka Lawrence Kueh? - wrong again. Guess on. ...

To lady (shaking head in disbelief), i need to clarify this, it was CLK who drew my attention to the well endowed girl. Can almost still recall his exact words which are "eh eh eh you see that gal, her xxxxx are big hor". Yes almost the exact words. Right CLK?
As for the girl, to be honest, we (at least me) actually don't her at all. Hence, the question of remembering is a non issue here. Face can remember as it was only the only time I recall seeing her and to be totally honest, I was not attracted despite her endownment.
For your info, I can still remember names like Judy Liew, June Ling, her sister Angelina Ling and Siong Ye Wan who are all Red Cross from St. Teresa's 1976 as well.
Thus I believe I am not guilty of how yoy think the 'MALE MIND works'. I plea NOT guilty.
GL, please be ready to act as my defence counsel.

    Peace everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  24. oops... correction and should be:
Face CANNOT remember as it was only the only time I recall seeing her and to be totally honest, I was not attracted despite her endownment.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hahaha, you will have to tell us who you are first, mr anony, before i can defend you. C'mon, reveal yourself ...

    ReplyDelete
  26. George, I believe that your elder sis Grace was also Red Cross. There, 'lady (shaking her head in disbelief)', I do remember so much more from 33 years ago than just CLK's gal attraction. Haha. But continue to guess as to my identity.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think you may be right that Grace was in the Red Cross but I can't be sure. Will have to ask her. You wanna give us some clue to your identity? James, where is he sending from? ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think as Website Jaga I should stay out of this and let you guys identify him using your detective skills :-)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Good, the website Jaga display his impartiality.

    ReplyDelete
  30. George, I think this person is in Malaysia (time of his comments)

I think he might be 1 or 2 years our senior. I also think he might be the "Head" of St. Joe'S Red Cross during my service, name.."Lupa lah"....Ha Ha...

    ReplyDelete
  31. If our senior, I have to give up. I don't know many seniors LOL. Knew Chris, Gabriel and Hugh Teo [cos we were swimming together], Vernon [cos he was Bertram's bro] - a few others [cos they were Grace's friends] but I don't think I know the ones in Red Cross.

Btw, Henry Ho has kindly given me the email address of his sister, the lovely Diana Ho, that all of us remember so fondly. I will send her an email and ask her to have a look at our website.

Who knows? She might even say hi to her ex pupils. Keep checking in on that section ....

  32. Anonymous March 22, 2009 5.37 AM (aka CLK right?)
Head of SJS Red Cross Youth Unit durung your service would be Kho Chin Seng the HSL (Head Section Leader). Recall the name now?
    Anyway, KCS I am not.
Wow, how many wrong guesses already...

  34. Anybody know any of our classmates based in Bangkok? I happen to be here this week, and would love to take the opportunity for a meetup.

  35. George,I think I'm still as ticklish as before but I can't confirm it as it doesn't seem to work when I try it on myself. The last time I was subjected to such torture was in a flat in Ealing Broadway,W. London in the early '80's.O Half a dozen of these fiends set on me and managed to bundle me under a mattress and proceeded to "tickle" me half to death. Indeed, you can help me sue them for GBH! I was bruised and lacerated from nails and finger marks for weeks after that not to mention loosing my voice and wetting my pants! That "assault" was carried out by Harry Goh,Jimmy Yong,James Kuo,Richard Lee, Christopher Chew and Ben Chung. Nowadays, I will break their fingers!!! Ok guys?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hey George, while you in the process of sueing the guys above, you might want to know that Lipp Kee was also part of that tickle gang.I can still feel his weight! In fact, later that year, he shot me with a .22 air rifle(point blank) at a fun fair in the park nearby. Luckily, the lead pellet didn't penetrate my extra thick denim back pocket! Once again, I had a large bruise for a souvenir. That lasted months and I had trouble sitting for ages! George, sue his ass!!!

  37. Though I'm no lawyer, I've watched enough Boston Legal and L.A.Law to know this concept called "Statute of Limitations", which limits the time for prosecution of crimes after it is alleged to have been committed. Between early 80s to 2007, i'd say a quarter of a century is way beyond the SoL period. Right George? Sorry Philip, old chap ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hey James, this is not Boston or L.A. Also, there are no limits on my statute! This is now and I want revenge. Might settle for a good steak. :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hi Philip,

The gangs at Ealing were notorious. They were famous for midnight shows with triple chinese movies at Shepherd's garden and Leceister Square.

I was there, but did not participate...heeee heeee.

You have to prove i carried out "shooting" you for GL to take action. Not gulity until proven, man..Right George?

I remember that day very well, Philip. But I am not saying anything....Ha Ha...

Ok, out of court settlement for my part..A 16 oz Ribeye, medium rear, is on its way to you. I will even throw in the side dishes..Mushroom, salad and corn on the cob, on top of the usual veg. However, it might take just as long to get to you, like your accusation to me.Big Boy!

    ReplyDelete
  40. My computation shows that CLK's steak will reach PC by approximately 2035 ... bon appetit!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Dear Philip,

I have the pleasure to accept your retainer to act for you to seek redress against those assailants who committed such heinous acts against your person.

A writ has been prepared and forwarded to the website jaga. I am informed that it will be published on this site shortly.

The Defendants named in the writ will be made accountable for the suffering and torment you were forced to endure whilst wrapped inside that mattress with the considerable bulk of CLK sitting atop you.

The fact that you pissed in your pants will no doubt lead the judge to increase the compensation due to you. You will have your day in court and we will 'sue their ass' as you so eloquently put it.

    Your lawyer,
    George.
