It is with sadness that I share with you news of the passing of Tan Chin Chai, our old friend from Form 5 Arts 1 (1976).
I was informed that ChinChai passed away suddenly of heart attack in Miri on 14th March 2009. Chin Chai had moved to Miri several years ago, and started a business there.
He leaves behind a wife and two young children.
May he rest in peace.

I remember Chin Chai although I haven't met him for many years. We were in the same class during much of primary school, as well as in early secondary days. He was a very pleasant and always cheerful chap.
ReplyDeleteThis is very sad. He was a good man.
ReplyDeleteFAR TOO YOUNG. FAR TOO SOON. YOU'LL BE MISSED.
ReplyDeleteAs they always say, the good guys go first.
ReplyDeletedefinitely a good man. r.i.p. friend.
ReplyDeleteLife is short and lets us appreciate every moment and sensitive to all around us while we are still kicking. As for Chi Chai, may your soul rest in peace.
ReplyDeleteI don't know Tan Chin Chai personally but my
ReplyDeletekuching highan friend who broke the tragic news
to me used to be his university mate in Canada.
True to his name, according to my friend, he was
very "chin chai" and "ho".Perhaps we should try
to get his wife's contact number and ask her
whether she needs any assistance as she is left
behind with two young children.
That's a good idea, Anon March 23, 1:10 AM. Is anyone in contact with Chin Chai's family?
ReplyDeleteJohn: It was a sad news and he was a good friend. In fact I spoke to him on the phone (he was stationed in Miri at the time) when I was back in Kuching in 2007. I was having a dinner with Koon Teck, Stanley Chong, Ch'ng Seng Chai, Sim Kee How and with their missus. Yes, he was a very likeable guy, easy going, never any bad word about anybody.
ReplyDeleteIf you have those guys' contacts, John, do let them know about this website & get them to participate too.
ReplyDeleteChin Chai was a classmate throughout Primary school. He was always a very pleasant and likeable guy as his name suggested. He never took offence when some boys teased him about his name. I will remember him. May you rest in peace, Chin Chai.
