Here's another selection of random photos from ol' Kuching town.
xxx
Today's pictures are of familiar places, but taken from slightly unusual angles. Let's see if you can recognise where each location is.
Fig 1: Enter the Dragon
Fig 2: Tower of Independence
Fig 3: Rooftop Rendezvous
Fig 4: Poster Show
Fig 5: A Face of the Monument
Fig 6: Upstairs, Downstairs
Identified them all yet? If you can't, then maybe it's time to schedule a trip home ...
xxxxx
nice shots. gee, i do think i need a trip back to kuching
ReplyDeleteFig 6 is obviously Elektra House. I used to go up and down those stairs often as a boy.
ReplyDeleteKuching is more colourful than I remember.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures WJ, thanks for the reminders. can't remember all except the face on the monument. This is infront of the old Court House.
ReplyDeleteWJ pics are just as colurful as the paints in Kuching. Would it be possible to have some street shots and see whether we can remember them. I thought Kuching town was much bigger in the old school days.
ReplyDelete1) 1st shot-temple near Hilton Hotel
ReplyDelete2) aerial shot taken from a car park, near mosque
3) "lau yah keng"-Carpenter St
4) Court house
5) Eletra House
hey Lee Kien, your numbering salah, la !
ReplyDelete1. Tua Pek Kong Temple
ReplyDelete2. Merdeka Palace Hotel & Suites
3. Jalan Borneo (foreground), MBKS, Gateway Somerset, Chinese Chambers of Commerce & Grand Continental Hotel (left to right - background)
4. Lau Ya Keng
5. Clock Tower, Former Court House (should be Rentap)
6. Electra House
All correct?
Leo
Leo is mostly correct ... though I'm not sure it actually is Rentap or just a generic Dayak warrior.
ReplyDeleteI also didn't know (3) was called Jalan Borneo. I just know it as the road in front of Hilton Kuching ;-)
mostly? i take that to be all correct - expecting a prize from hanoi... haha.
ReplyDeleteLeo
WJ,
ReplyDeleteI was posting the answers under duress cos the family was pressing me to shut down as all were waiting for me to go out for dinner.....
Secondly, someone could have expanded on my suggested answers and had home advantage!!
So he doesnt deserve a prize!! Haha!!
Suggest we have second challenge?? and post answers thro e-mail?
haha, now now now CLKien, there is a secret to getting the correct answers. It is all here. If you know how. But I keeping that secret for myself. Hehe.
ReplyDeleteLeo
Wow you know i am talking about you and are still burning the midnight oil!!
ReplyDeleteI think I made it too easy this round. The next time, the camera angles will be even more unusual and less obvious. And I think I know the "secret" our friend is talking about. It won't happen again.
ReplyDeleteLee Kien, as you recently went to Kuching, I'm expecting a bumper crop of photos from you & your Nikon soon, ya?
ReplyDeleteWJ,
ReplyDeleteYou bet WJ..i took back half a bag load of old albulms..including..
1) "Unidentified male and female"-taken at Empire Disco
2) Plenty of pics taken at Windermere..
3) Old friend with long coat taken at Mid-Herts colledge etcetc!!
Went through my parents old photos as well to try if Pip's late Dad was in any..can't find yet..have to sort out and get my Pa to do it cos i can't remember how he looked like..
Amongst some of the gems were pics of my parents in STS and ST Joe..Yes my parents also went to our schools..Mr and Mrs Paul taught my mum and both SK and myself were also taught by them...
"Pai 4 koh ai twee-kau pai eat" Loo lang ai kee mai?
Kuching residents should be disqualified from guessing ...
ReplyDeleteLee Kien, did not you are talking about me... cos I am resident in Miri and not the one with 'home advantage'. Thus qualified according to GL. Haha.
ReplyDeleteAnway, I let the cat of the bag and WJ is not letting it happen again.
Leo
What's the secret? I don't see any tip-off in the photos.
ReplyDeleteGeorge,
ReplyDeleteIts probably from the angles WJ took. For the 1st picture he should cut off the building on the right.
5th picture he should focus and take only the warrior
Lee Kien, scratching your head to no avail. Haha.
ReplyDeleteGeorge, don't bother knowing the secret as WJ knows what I am talking about and won't happen again.
Leo
BTW WJ, I cannot post comments under the Name/URL option. Any idea/suggestions?
GL,
ReplyDeleteLeo was with WJ when the photos were taken during their meeting in Kuching.
Ah ha! That's called cheating. Leo, you are disqualified!!! LOL.
ReplyDeleteHey no. WJ, please clear me or else I will engage a the legal firm of GLo & Partners to defend me.
ReplyDeleteLeo
Leo,
ReplyDeleteToo bad WJ is not a lawyer so he is not qualified to defend you and you are being qualified!! Hehe Accept defeat and surrender lah....
Just to get Leo off the hook .. no, he wasn't with me when I took the photos. I might as well reveal the "secret" we are referring to, since I'll be making sure it doesn't happen again in future.
ReplyDeleteIf you tried to save some of the pictures onto your PC (by using right-click mouse button),the filename often gives a strong clue of the location of the shot. An oversight on my part :-(
Leo,
ReplyDeleteOk lah Leo we are back at sqaure 1.
So WJ, next challenge???
Oh, that is the secret. I sure did not know it. Thanks WJ (for nothing though hehe).
ReplyDeleteTks for the clues WJ.
ReplyDeleteYour 'right click' reveals:
1. IMG_0414
2. MerdekaPalace
3. View_from_Above
4. LYK
5. CBM
6. EHView
Hmmm.... except for 2. MerdekaPalace, the rest are not sufficiently strong clues IMHO.
Cheers.
I shall be anon. haha.
I thought that was revealing enough ... If you had another "secret", Leo, I dunno what it can be!
ReplyDeleteWJ,
ReplyDeleteHe probably drove round Kuching Town the whole weekend!! After all, Kuching "say say niah", right Leo? Hehe!!
Lee Kien, correct say say Kuching. But then I drove around the even more 'say say Miri' over the weekend. Hehe.
