Men in Uniform

Is it true that girls go for men in uniform? Well, a long time ago some of our friends certainly believed so and went all out trying that strategy. Here are some of the pictures. If you happen to have more, just send them to me & I'll add them on.
xx

The first picture is of our friend John Lee, the Police Cadet. This was during one of the Sports Days, when the uniformed boys were "on duty". Sorry the photo isn't very clear. I've done whatever photo editing I can to sharpen it, but it looks like they used some primitive pinhole camera from Ah Chui's Physics lab ...
xx

The next photo shows four smart looking Police Cadets - not sure who's the one leftmost, but I can see Sinos Bartholomew, Harry Goh and John. I also can't recognise the two other boys who are trying to muscle their way into the picture.

What's the point of being a Police Cadet without playing with guns? In the next picture, we have Wilson Chao and John Lee on a Police Cadet exercise trip to Sematan. According to John (who supplied these Cadet pictures) they all had a go with shooting targets (mostly coconuts) using 1.22 rifles.

(Spot Philip Hii & Koon Teck in photo above)

We mustn't forget the other important uniformed group, the Red Cross or Red Crescent (I can't remember exactly which year the name change came about). Anyway, the next picture shows Cyril "Si Tiaw Mo" (seated, middle) and Leo Sia (seated 2nd from right, who also contributed this picture), among many others whom I'll leave you to identify.

So the big question remains - do girls really go for men in uniform? Three decades on, I hope some of the ladies looking at this posting will tell them the truth on whether this strategy worked or not ... :-)

  1. This post brings back memories. I was once a Police Cadet too, but not for long, as I switched to Red Cross. Also didn't last long. I guess I'm just not the uniformed type ... but i eventually did get the girl... SO THERE!!

  2. Hi...WJ
Just a correction on Photo 2: I was not in the picture. The chap on the leftmost was our 1 year senior. BTW, would like to see our sisters from STS in other uniforms besides the school ones. Have you got any in your shoebox, LK?

  5. WJ,

I certainly do not go "gaga" over boys or men in uniform..I am sure you and KL had first hand knowledge of my required attributes..fact find first but investing in precious time and effort...WJ mouth is sealed..want to know more join the next party..

    John...
Sorry John don't have any photos of the girls in uniform..perhaps you may want to ask Lily Chang or Cel Foo-they were in the Girl Guides..or perhaps WJ can superimpose uniforms..he's very good at "enhancements'..hey photos touch ups lah...

Why are the photos so blur John?? Taken ny some girls admirers who cannot hold the cameras still at the sight of uniformed boys?

  6. Hahahahaha
Aiyah, LK, cheap camera, lah. LOL. I think it was towards the end of the sports day (at Jublilee Ground, Padungan) and there was not much daylight left, hence not sharp or clear, if taken by shaky hands from the admirers, the photo would have been smeared.
Did not know that Lily was in girl guides. How often did you girls get together, I heard that Cheng Yi and the others had a get together a while ago, sometime last year, were you one of them?

  7. Hi John,

I suppose it all started when Sophia came back. She and a few others masterminded the re-union.It was held on 3 Jan 09.3 classes represented by about 20 odd attended.

I didnt attend cos it was near the first day of school. I was told guys were not included cos there was poor response! Chicken!

Met Sophia in Jan 09 and again begining of May 2009.

Lily and i see each other very often. Last saw her just 2 weeks ago in KL.Her sister Lucy stays near me and her kids go to the same school my kids go..small world..we only found out recently.

I see Lucy Ngu frequently too. You know her? In KL-Lee Lee Shim, Mrs Harry Goh (Catherine Hong), a Marian, Cindy Chong, Mary Kueh, the twins, Jilly Ng, Annie Loh & Jenny Poh-we had several gatherings in KL on a few occasions..

All of a sudden everybody start to ring each other to meet up..its so sweet really.

Hey sounds you miss home..take a break..bring your family home for the summer hols..it should be fun..i will be happy to play host..

    Cheers!!

  13. The Police Cadet and the Red Crescent are very complementary uniformed groups. One shoots people, and the other patches them up. Hehehe.

  14. Hi...LK
My contact number in England is: 07812900486 (mobile) or 01484 305763 (land line). Can call me anytime but unless anyone is travelling up north of England (Huddersfield), it is geographically difficult to travel to meet up, as those who has been to England will know. For those who do not know (but you can google it on multimap), it is nearly 200 miles to travel from Huddersfield to London. However if you do come to England for a visit, please do not hesitate to give me a ring and have a chat even to say hello is fine by me or if you need any help or advice. I am sure the others who reside here in England would not mind that too.

  15. BTW,
Do you celebrate Father's day in M'sia in June? What about in other countries? To me it is too commercialise these days with all sorts of celebrations. Bah humbug!!!. Does it have to have a special day to celebrate and put pressure on families to buy cards, presents and well wishes, etc? To me everyday is a special day and you can give your loving wishes to your family or love ones everyday. Every now and then take them out for a special meal (somewhere posh or intimate if it is for partners only). Nevertheless, I guess you just have to follow the norm or else........someone will be in a foul mood. LOL

  16. My family and friends can celebrate Father's Day for me anytime. Let's see what I want as prezzies: a Mazda roadster, a new hifi system, a new suit, another high-speed Notebook, an iPhone 3G .... that'll do for a start. I'll think of more later :-)

  17. Hey guys, whoever else was ever in uniform, and want to preserve the memories, please send in your pics to be put up.

  18. I have a question that some of you former uniformed boys - especially the "got pangkat" (higher ranking) officers may be able to help me with. If you look at the uniform, always got a little string or rope looping across left shirt pocket. What is that used for?

    ReplyDelete
  19. It's to hold up their pants, Never in Uniform. Hehehe.

    ReplyDelete
  20. It comes in handy for those who don't know how to. To use it to whistle at girls when they see one.

  21. Who's the guy wearing the hat in the Red Cross group shot? He looks familiar.

    ReplyDelete
  22. That is OfficerInCharge SJS Red Cross Youth Unit
    Paul Foong. Right CLK?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Certainly a very handsome guy..

    ReplyDelete
  24. I told you guys the uniform had that effect. Maybe it's specially the hat. Hehehe

    ReplyDelete
  25. Big boys and their toys! I like the Wilson/John dialogue! Hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  26. He is handsome!!
Look at the nice smile, gentle look, kind look, depicts a person who is willing to help any lady in distres!

I can't say the same for the guy with curly hair though. He wants to offer to house some lady in the Central Police Station....

    ReplyDelete
  27. We had been focusing on the handsome guy..just notice WJ had been putting captions ..do you remember what was the made of the guns John?

Looks the same to me...same length

The angles that you guys are pointing seem to be in the wrong directions...should be straight and not downwards unless you are aiming at your feet!!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I like the caption too..ahahaha. Those were automatic rifles and can shoot continuous rounds from a cartridge or from single bullet. Not sure of the make but at the time (may be even at present),they were most likely from Australia or UK. Of course they were all the same, size, weight, etc. For us, non professionals, no bullets in the gun until we need to shoot at target, for our own safety. Believe it or not, those guns were very powerful and very noisy when firing. (see photo that I sent to WJ, if he put it up).

  29. Sinos said:.. Yes, those were the days..we kena on duty during school sports days @Padang Jubilee, did tarffic control infront of the current RTM building when there was a road going out from SJS primary school etc...but few perks we enjoyed were going out early for the day when we were on duty, being in control esp. when we signaled the cars to stop to give way for the school kids, special fare on the CLL white bus ( Chin Lian Long bus lah )and boleh tengok ah moi cantik from STS too.!!

Yes, remembered the Sematan trip with some real police inspectors and the ride on the police truck was terrible...bumpy, long, hot and dusty..Our rambut were like electrical cables!!

I think the guy to my left is Anthony Tiong, whom I don't where is he now. I think Ben Wong might know where he is now..

    Those were the days, man...Cheers....
