A number of Josephians and Teresians from our cohort spent time in London in the late 70s and early 80s. Here's a sample of photos from those times. I'm not sure of the exact years or occasions, but some of you who were there might be able to help.

I'm also trying to include photos that are .. ahem ... "non-incriminating" ... goodness knows what some of us might have been up to thirty years ago. Hey, we were all hardly twenty yet. Ha ha ha !

Five "musketeers" at a rented flat in West London, where we stayed during a school vacation. I'm sure the neighbours were relieved when the vacation break was over.
xx
We missed local food, and there was this Malaysian restaurant named Rasa Sayang, near Leicester Square that we occasionally visited. Five guys, three ladies, infinite possibilities.

Judging from the glasses on the table, this was probably a weekend night out at a pub or the West End or something. Or maybe it was Disco Night ... but why isn't CLK(m) in his John Travolta outfit? Does he have other things on his mind?
xxx
The lads having a good time at someone's flat. Nice to see the Chung brothers. Hope they drop by this blog and say hi.
xx
Take note of future designer PT (leftmost) with the fashionable outfit and slingbag. Also note my equally fashionable goggles (as Pip calls them) ... which WILL COME BACK IN FASHION ... you mark my words.
xxx
LKF (rightmost) tells me that the photo above was taken at Heathrow Airport, but neither of us remember who was sending who off, when or why ... But I say, weren't some of us dressed up like dandies back then ? LOLxxx
I invite any others who were in London during those days to send me old photos they might have for adding on to this post.
In the meantime, enjoy walking down Memory Lane, London town ...

London Bridge is falling down, falling down, falling down ...
ReplyDeleteAi yoh, I see arm/hand on boy's shoulder only but none on the girls. Bo Hoot, is all I can say.
ReplyDeleteAl Capones of Kuching.
ReplyDeleteWhere's the machine gun in the violin case?

ReplyDeleteWho is on the rightmost, last pic?
Aiyo Lee Kien! Kueh Fook will be disappointed you didn't recognise him. Maybe it's the Al Capone look that distracted you.
ReplyDeleteWell, good memories.....
ReplyDeletelong hair, bell bottoms, lots of drinking, lots of fun.....
I was on my way back to Brunei at the airport..meeting LKF was a coincident..
PC was carrying my case so my hands are free behind the backs of others..anyone can see that WJ was smiling...but I ccould not remember what was done! lol

Hey WJ,
ReplyDeleteCan you zoom on youself-3rd pic-were you finger pointing some rude sign or were you holding a cigarette?
Anon June 29 2009 929pm
ReplyDeleteNow now mind your language!! Who dare call people Boh Hoot when you yourself hide behind the invisible veil called Anon!!!
Lee Kien> It was a cigarette. But only posing for the photo lah. As Clinton said, I did not inhale.
ReplyDeleteHarry and WJ shared the same cap but Fook was wearing his own one. Well said Lee Kien re "mind your language".
ReplyDeleteThat last photo looks like it was taken from some cheap Hong Kong gangster movie. The bag may have contained a stash of heroin or cocaine, and the Chow Yuen Fatt wannabes are the anti-heroes - some being the drug sellers, and some the buyers. LOL
ReplyDeletenot Chow Yuen Fatt .. I see Chin Han and Samo Hung ... ha ha ha
ReplyDeleteDo you not think some of these photos make you cringe at times. I have to put my hands up for that, I had similar fashion sense at the time and I too had a flat cap during my student days here in England. The "characters" in the last photo did looked a bit suspicious. Was it a sad occasion when seeing somebody off? LOL. Good memories guys.
ReplyDeleteAny of u guys have similar photos from your student days in Australia or NZ or wherever? Send them in and I'll do a "memories" post for you too!
ReplyDeleteThe more cringey the better ... ha ha ha
the photos are not the least cringey!! they are full of eternal youth and vitality. Wonderful lives we had. reality check in the mirror today. Same still?
ReplyDeleteWJ, well done. U look great, and so is everyone.
Gem, are you reading this blog?
ReplyDeleteYou look exactly like Mrs WJ-5th pic
I remember Rasa Sayang.
ReplyDeleteDishes were great, and location just next to Empire Disco, on the side street....
Good one WJ!
Is Rasa Sayang still around?
ReplyDeleteI think Rasa Sayang boh liaw ...
ReplyDeleteThats why loh, small wonder all the 8 regular patrons no longer go there...
ReplyDeleteLook at the amount of food on the table...
Last pic; if I were a girl I would surely melt in the arms of the cutest guy who was carrying Samsonite. No tampering of pic or photoshop,I guess.
ReplyDeletePity it's always a non-girl that makes that kind of comments. Cute Samsonite boy tends to be appealing to those .. hehehe
ReplyDeleteIf he looks even remotely like this now, I sure
ReplyDeletedon't mind going under the knife just for him!
Oh, yes. Such a cute handsome boy. And such nice long hair ... LOL
ReplyDeleteHold your horses, please be reminded of the time frame. The pic was probably taken 30 years ago.
ReplyDeleteHe may have jolly well metamorphosis into a nicer person..

ReplyDeleteProboscis, I got this queer(sic) feeling abt you! I think I need GL to apply for a restraining order(>100km radius).Goodness knows what you might get up to next if you're prepared to "go under the knife"! Thankfully I'm sans hair these days and my proclivities haven't changed!
ReplyDeleteMonyet,I'd like to think that I'm still the same nice person and haven't metamorphosed into anything evil except for my head, of course!
What a bunch of scary monkeys!
Proboscis-a trunklike growth from the head..
ReplyDeleteWow WJ blog attracting other beings...maybe clone gone astray.
The musketeers uniform must be made in kuching!!!
ReplyDeleteMost likely. Look at those bell bottoms!
