  7. Yes,I do have to lose that stoic look soon, Kopi-Si. :-) Good to see Kwang Yeang next to me. I remember him very well as both of us were the smallest kids in our years at St Joe.. Swee Cheng was another good buddy.

  8. Ronald is good with remembering the names of almost all classmates in photos above, take my hat off to you. Ronald is right, can't be 2 photos of 5B. Photo A is primary 6A,1971. I was in 6B and teacher was Philip Semboi. Are we going to see the photographs on the big screen at the dinner?

  10. Hi...guys

Both Photos A & B were from the same year and Class. Norbert, I think you went to the toilet when first photo was taken...lol. Photo A was taken with our training teacher from Batu Lintang and the latter was with our Class teacher, Mr Phang whose capital puinishment was pulling of side burns or rolling of broom stick on our hands. I know because I had the experience of his "sadistic" treatments on a few occasions.....hahahaha.

  11. John is correct. Moreover, the photos were contributed by him. Definitely it is not primary 6A cause the class teacher for 6A was Mrs. Majorie Leong. You would see guys like Kevin Chin, Andrew kang, lau Swan Chye, james Yong, George Lo, Abg Ariffin, Abg Adzhar et al in the photo.

I remember my 4 X 100m relay partners in the class of 6B. They are Tan kia Kim, Dilai Ajis and Justine Jinggut. We were champions in Kuching Div those time. James Nabau P6C was the 1st runner, Tan Kia Kim 2nd runner, I ran the 3rd leg and Dilai the final. Justine was the reserve. I remembered we were honoured to get our champions trophy from the guru besar during one of the school assembly and only the next day I was called to Master Chai Chin Tu's office to be canned for not doing my homework. LOL

I vividly remember that particular day when Master Chai told me to choose the rotan, and advised me that a champion in sport does not mean one should neglect one studies.

Practically, I was always in the school compound during the afternoons with these boys improving our sprints and the correct way of exchanging buttons. No wonder SJS was very good in sports and mmm...studies.

I wonder whether anyone has the Primary 6A photo? I have one but it is in Kuching. I treasured those lovely times with my classmates, schoolmates and teachers. The only SJS primary teacher that I am still in contact is Master Philip Sambui. He taught me/us Cathechism.

    Those were the days!
    Cheers

  12. I think John is right, I may have ran off to the toilet when photo A was taken, nature calls mah. So John, do you think I was standing on your left in primary 4 photo? Your right is Richard Chong. Just look at the way Lim Soon Huat stands, photo B, 2nd row, 2nd from right with glasses, steady man! For a moment I thought it was WJ!

  13. Gerard, check out the thread "Snapshot of an EVEN FURTHER Past" posted in April for a photo of Primary 6A (with you in it).

Also heard that Lim Soon Huat has passed on. Can anyone confirm that?

  14. Hi...Gerard

How nice to hear from you and your contributions. I can remember you now.....my brain's a bit slow but still there, slowly cranking away, needs a bit of oiling now and then. You also had excellent memories like Ronald. You ARE the man for sports memories. Norbert, yes we were standing next to each other from the first two photos. I must admit that when you first appear on the blogs, with your beard, I wasn't were it was you and I would not have recognise you if you walk past me on the Street and you got the towkay bulge as well. I have also heard about Tan Kia Kim passing awhile ago - need someone to confirm this too.

  15. WJ, when are you going to post your 'Brest X'mas card' on the blog? Heard you received one very very beautiful one from someone yesterday.

  16. Hi John!

Nice to hear from you man!! We were in the JV those days and your sister and my sis are best friends. (Catherine Lee and Stephanie Harry)

Was it your elder brother the JV captain? I think it was him.

    Guys,
Regarding Lim Soon Huat and Tan Kia Kim: If it is true, this is indeed a sad news to us all. I share the sadness.

  18. Gerald, Was your sister Stephanie was at one time working at a hotel in Miri ??/ and later went to KL to study???I
Is she the same person. Where is she now ?

  19. Anon, correcto! She worked at Park Hotel then later to KL to pursue her studies. You can meet her at the ground floor of the Spring. She manages the only pharmaceutical store there. Btw, she's only an employee.

    Cheers

  20. Spring in Kuching or Spring in Miri? Too many Spingssss nowadays la.

  21. Hi... John, hehe, lots of you won't recognise me with my beard, almost bald head and the bulge. Growing old already, and I suppose I'm not the only one la, heh, heh. You know what John, why were we always standing next to each other when our class photos are taken? In primary 4, I was on your left. Then in primary 5, I was still on your left! Won't be surprized I'm still on your left in primary 6 class photo. Were we the best buddies back then? Any primary 6B photo anyone?

  22. I don't really know about Tan Kia Kim but Ang Swee Cheng passed on in 1974 while we were all in Form Three, and from sources, Lim Soon Huat died in a car accident in KL some time back.

  24. Yes, I remember Swee Cheng's passing. We used to muck around quite a bit near the chinning bars just outside the woodwork shed. I was shook up by it. PT

  25. Hi...Norbert

I think there were a few of us that used to play together during breaktime - Ricky Chong, James Lau, William Chee to name a few. I remembered there was a few "bullies" in the class and from the seniior class too at the time. I remembered there was one who extorted either money or sweets and he was a class prefect. Can anyone of you recall it or were you one of the "victims" or you were the bully. Don't worry, if you were....all is forgiven except that you have to belanja when we meet up, unless someone out there is still trumatised by it all and seeking compensation!!!!!.....lol.

This is the first I heard of Lim Soon Huat, so sorry to hear of his passing. In fact, I got some old photos of us (Soon Huat, Theng Hui and Cho Joey) at the musuem - posing like male models!!!!!!!!. Do mention this to Theng Hui at the Reunion, see if he can recall it.

Btw, Gerard - I am trying to recall a few things that you had mentioned, especially about me in the JV. You must have mistaken as I really cannot recall that - or was I? My sister, Julia Lee was in St Teresa School and she is 4 years older than us. I do not know if she was in JV also.

Hey, guys - not long now to the great Reunion. Have a great and wonderful time.

    Season greetings to all.

  26. BTW, Ronald - that was not Mr Anthony Goh in the Primary 5B, photo A. Mr Goh only came in the secondary years at SJS. Someone mentioned Mr Philip Sembui - was he the one that some of us went to his house for tuition at Rubber Road West (I am quite sure he was) during our primary years.

    ReplyDelete
  27. FYI, Master Philip Sambui is now residing in Kenyalang park. Somewhere near the Spring.

John, perhaps I got the wrong John Lee. Anyway, nice to hear that you're doing fine.

There was also a John Lee who was the Borneo champion in tennis way back in the 80's.

    ReplyDelete
  28. BTW, John, do you recall a John Lee one year our senior in SJS? He studied til F5. He was small built. He could be that John Lee. Too many AhJohn around haha... And the guys are goin to AhJohn tomorrow.

When are you coming back to Kuching? I hope to be in Kuching around the Gawai holidays. Perhaps we can have a cuppa one day.

    Nice meeting you John!

  29. OK John and Gerard, as Robert has pointed out to me about the two John Lees, er my boss also name John Lee la, the one Gerard referred to is the John Lee who is our senior of two years I think, smaller and shorter, who has a sister name Catherine Lee, His elder brother was one of the JV leaders. Grand reunion dinner last night was GREAT guys!

John, I can't remember or recall who that class prefect who extort from us, maybe he was scare of me that he dare not ask from me. I don't think I was the one who extort as I was a very OK boy back then. If I or you or anyone who remembers who the fellow is, do let me know.

    Cheers!
