The Mother of All Reunions - Part 1 (School Visit)

On the morning of 23 Dec 2009, a group of boys mostly from the Class of 76 paid a visit to our alma mater, St Joseph's. At 10am, we met at the main building, and from there made our way to various areas of interest within the school. Not even the light drizzle could dampen our spirits.

Here were the early birds ...
"Isn't the sign above somewhat appropriate?"

Sinos and Ben joined soon after ...
"What happened to your foot, Mr Cambodia?"

In front of the Form 4 & 5 block

We even re-lived our classroom days ...
"Koon Teck, no talking! Please pay attention!"
"Ngee Hong, don't tilt your desk!"

To be honest, we were a bit taken aback at the condition of some of the classrooms. But rather than simply whine about how much better the classrooms looked during our time, we actually want to do something tangible to help the situation. More on this in a later posting ...

Memories of the School Hall (Datuk William Tan Auditorium)
On a future post, I'll show the various lists of names engraved on the boards.

Remember where we had many school assemblies ?

Of course, we had to take a group shot in front of "The LOVE Bridge"

Checking out the School Canteen
(No mee goreng or laksa today unfortunately)

Checking out the school fields
(and some recalling their athletic prowess in their yesteryears)

What visit to St Joe is complete without stopping at the Toilet Block?

You guys abroad must be dying to see what the toilet looks like now .... believe it or not, it looks pretty clean and doesn't even smell ... of course, being holiday time may have something to do with that!

Moving on to the Basketball Courts
(This looks like the showdown before a fight ... ;-)

A couple of final group shots before we left the school compound ...

Next stop, the new St Mike's Canteen !

  1. Would have LOVED to be there with you guys. The St Joe tour would bring back so many memories of the antics we were up to back in the 1970s.

C'mon WJ, more photos on the Reunion Dinner !!!!

  3. Hey, Dato AM. You say the word and I'll come round with my overalls and get on with the paint job. LOL.

Joking aside, it will be a nice gesture if we can give something back to the school. We can start a funding campaign and get ALL ex students to contribute towards the upkeep of the school. More thoughts required for this. Watch this topic - excellent idea.

    More photos please WJ.

  4. I heard that there were some students around and they were pretty amused by the antics of you guys. Never expected to see a group of middle-aged behaving like themselves.

  5. A big thank you to Ben, Robert, Bob and Jensen for organising the reunion. Fantstic event, fantastic get together, fantastic company, fantastic jokes, fantastic ..... except for the food! But who cares about the food - we can get that anytime. But the event can never be repeated !!!!

  8. Dear boys,

I am back in Cambodia and still regreting that I forgot about 40% of the happenings on the Big50 Reunion on 23-12-09 night.

To the hardworking, ever creative and thoughtful Organizers... I salute you all for the great work you all did. For every single small things were not left out...like personalized towel, black t-shirts with all the names of attendees (although some did not turn up !!), big fat & cute pen and the special edition of newspaper issued on our birthdays..you guys are fantastic... Well done Ben, Bob Chew, Robert Chin, Jensen Ng, WJ the Mastermind and host of others who we might not know working feverishly behind the scene. Not forgeting all the generous donors & sponsors..

From the part where we all ended up at the VA, where I recalled seeing some of our friends already flat out, it had been a blur to me. Maybe bcoz of too much booze, happiness and just the ambience of the place & event...

As discussed with Ben earlier on, we might not need to sleep afterall but I recalled the next day, I was sleeping up to 11.00 am in my parents home in the kampong !!.. Man, how did I manage to drive safely home??? A great mystery to me.

It was great meeting up again with the boys after 33 years of going seperate ways and a visit to SJS was a nice feeling although mixed with some disappointments with how things are happening now to the good old St, Joe..Meeting our former teachers was a happy moment too.

Of course the lucky guys are now planning their trip to London but I am hoping for the special draw of 4D of Ronald Kueh.... Ronald, you are my friend or not???

Overall comment: It was a Numero Uno !!.. Congrats guys and thank you all for everything.

    Regards,
    Sinos
