The Mother of All Reunions - Part 2 (St Mike's)

Next it was off to St Michael's Cafe .... Ahhhh, how so many of us loved meeting up at St Mike's back in our boyhood days in the 70s. There we would have long chats, while enjoying delicious food and desserts. Most have made calls from the pink coin phone. Many have inserted ten cent coins into the juke box in order to play their favourite tunes. Indeed St Mike was more than a cafe - it was a part of our teenage tradition.

So it was only natural that our next stop on this Grand Reunion day was the new location of St Michael Cafe at 3rd Mile, near the Timberland medical centre. We got there just after 11am.

Enjoy the pictures ...

Here's John, cheerful as always ...

Some familiar desserts are still available ...

John welcomes Tony, Dato' Anthony, Edmund and Richard ...

Some enjoying Ang Tau Peng, some Kolo Mee, some Chicken Rice ...

When Johnny met Georgie ...

Mmmmm ....Ang Tau Peng as I remembered it ....

Smile for Uncle Bob, everybody !

One of our classmate musicians for tonight, Felix ...

"Hey Fook, glad you could make it ..."

Ronald and Mark

About 25 turned up altogether (some not in this picture)

Special Branch on the case of the missing Jukebox ?

Wilson also joined the group later ...

Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable morning with good friends ... what a meaningful prelude to the Grand Reunion Dinner !!!!

  3. The whole place was roaring with our laughter and everyone of us talking at the top of our voices.

We practically shouldered all the other customers out. By 12 noon, there were so many of us, making so much noise that I think passerbys may have thought we were about to have a fight there!

  4. Before a fight..there is always a gathering..in this case , we did have a sort of rowdy gathering which caught the eyes of many passers by.

  6. Hi...guys

May I say that for such a long time that some of us have not met or seen one another - you are all looking good and I would even go on to say, have not change much. I CAN still recognise you all and from the photos with the exception of Nnnnnnorberttttt......hahahahahhaha.

Honestly. I wish I was there....looking forward to the next one - 5 years time?, could consider make it once every 5 years. So that some of us can plan ahead. Some of you can plan mini annual ones. Great photos

    Best wishes

  7. Great photos! I am sure you all have a fabulous time!!
I echo John's proposal that the next grand reunion will be the 'big 55' ie 5 years from now. And some of you may have retired and some about to.

I can recognise Jimmy, Kuek Fook, Philip Chin, Felix Lim and of course George Lo(does not change much in appearance since his primary school days).

Norbert! Alamak you look different la! Remember you as a small fair looking guy who used to pass by my house at Satok Road.

And the rest I can not recall perhaps some of you joined SJS in 1972. Nice meeting you.

    Cheers

  8. John and Gerard, well, guess I must have put on some weight, moustache and a beard that makes me look very different. Don't worry, when we meet at 55, I'll lose some weight but can't lose my moustache and beard la, maybe the colour black will turn to white!

Grand reunion at 55 next and every 5 years is a wonderful idea! Doesn't have to be THAT grand like what we had two nights ago, that's a big one.Can be held anywhere,KL,Kuching,Siem Reap, S'pore or Bangkok, where there's 76ers la.

Subra was suggesting that we do a mini reunion annually in KL or Kuching or S'pore. Ben, like the one you all gathered at Dato AM place in KL sometime ago, I think you have been told to look into it. I for one think it's a great idea too.

Our meeting at Ah John's place was great, ate all the food and drinks we missed for so many years.

The jukebox already 'kong out' years ago, that's according to John, the only thing that's left is the cover, the outer box. Even the kayu of the jukebox eaten up by white ants. Maybe if I can get a photo of it, WJ will post it for all to see.

  11. Does St Mike have wireless Internet access? If so, it could be even more popular with business executives and students of today ... just a suggestion.

  12. I had the "kiaw" at St Mike, and it was very good.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I had 'ang tau peng' 'jelly peng' 'kolok mee with kiaw' 'roti bakar' and two half boiled eggs!

No, St Mike does not have wireless internet, maybe can tell John to fix one.

WJ, will try to get a snapshot of the jukebox for all but not the pink phone, taken back by Telecom already years ago.

  17. Ah John, if you fix wireless Internet at St Mike, make sure you use Cisco Linksys product and WJ would be happy. hehehe

  18. Ah John, if you fix up the juke box, I am very sure the old boys will come back, WJ will spread the word, and business will increase 10 folds ...

  19. what happened to the old site of St Mike Canteen? Got shopping mall alredy kah?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Anon 29Dec 2009. 11.49am. Well, I'm the same with everyone, still growing, but growing older. When we can STILL eat, we must eat, the time will come when each and everyone of us will stop eating, maybe too old to chew, no more teeth, etc, and then they will say, 'why didn't I eat that and that when I can still chew and eat'

Anon 31Dec 2009 10.57AM. Well, the old site is a carpark now, fence up with chain link fence, for teachers and parents of St. Jude Kindergarten and St. Joseph Parish Tuition Schools. No shopping mall of that sort, not allowed, bcos of nearby schools. You all remember the former Catholic Centre site, well, I think the Parish Council is going to build a Parish Centre there, attach with a food court too, can't confirm though. Will keep all inform in future.
