The Mother of All Reunions - Part 8 (Gift Bag)

Initially I didn't think there would be a Part 8 for this series of posts, but several people have been nudging me to post pictures of the gift bag and souvenirs we all received on the evening.

So here they are:

Above you see the bag itself, which contained a customised NST front page (from the day we were born), personalised towel, the souvenir pen and the T-shirt (front). [Sorry, my NST copy was rolled up & in the bag itself, but you can see it in one of the folowing pictures]

The back of the T-Shirt is even more special as it features the names of all attendees.

Excellent design and production work by Standard Resources (BW's business) which specialises in souvenirs and premium gifts.

And a most priceless item is a copy of the front page from The Straits Times (back then it was still called that, before Malaysia and Singapore parted, and the publication in Singapore continued that name, while Malaysia went for New Straits Times). Thanks to Dato' AM and NSTP, each attendee had the page from the day of his birth in 1959 (or 1958 or 1960).

To those who couldn't attend, see what you missed ?

  2. WJ, is it your b'day on Sept 26, 1959?

bad news dominate the front page that day: Banda is shot, heart stops, hit 4 times, gunman in monk's robes, state of emergency, 71 dead, 2 crashes, reserves called to duty etc.

luckily you turn out to be just the opposite.

  3. Yup, my birthday is 26 Sept. Make sure you enter it into your PDA and remember when it comes round in 2010 and beyond. And what I like are ..... LOL.

Having made my debut on such a violent and turmultous day, I guess I must try to counterbalance with peace and friendship and reconnection ...

  5. The words on the t-shirt make out a shape that looks a little bit like the face of a cat, which is appropriate as we all lived in Kuching! was it designed that way?

  6. James, your birth date rekindled childhood memories. In 1969(primary 4), you invited me and a few close friends to your birthday party. That was my first ever to a b'day party. The party was supposed to start at 4pm but I told my dad to send me there at 2pm. That was way, way too early.LOL It was because I wanted to read your comics. I think it was marvels comics such as Spiderman, superman, batman etc.

I was always looking forward to your birthday each year not only for the comics, but i believe it was the curry puffs. To me, the curry puffs was the best in the world at that time. haha... And I did go to your birtday party for another 2 years. I think Aik Hock was invited to your 1971 birthday party too.

Somehow I did not feel bad (guilty) for not giving you b'day present those days. I guess your dad must have told my dad that I need not get any for you. I think we should meet one of these days and have a cup of coffee and eat the best curry puffs around Kuching Town. ;-)

It is good to reconnect with you again, Jimmy!

    Cheers!!

  8. Gerard!!!!! - you certainly have a memory of an "elephant". LOL. Where and how do you keep remembering all these fond memories? Amazing!!!. Keep it up. Btw, can you remember all those gals you were "chasing" in your younger days. Do share your conquest. hahahaha

  10. John, the funny thing is that I do not remember much about my classmates in Pen Malaysia beside Valentine Khoo(VK). VK and I were very close those years together. The last time I met VK was on a street in KL while I was attending a meeting and he was going to work on the 10th or 11th floor of Menara Standard Chart. Actually he told me to visit him there when I am free. However it never meterialized.

VK was in Sibu in the early 90's only for a short spell and I used to meet him at the bank when applying for new shares. He was ever ready to give me the application forms. His eldest child is one day younger than my 2nd. My 2nd was born on 14th August 1990. I rememebered him telling me that he wanted his daughter's birthday on 14th and I told him my wife preferred our daughter to be born on the 15th. LOL

John, I think my memory stops in 1971. LOL!!! I am trully a Josephian. Perhaps a Josephian is always a Josephian.

By the way, is there an entry form to be a member of ex-SJS? Maybe James (President ex SJS boys in the making) or George could help on this. Cheers!!!

  14. T-shirt and towel cannot use one, treasure la, got money also cannot buy one you know? Maybe we can frame the two items and hang them on our wall? What say you all? Ho boh?

  15. Certainly, a collector's item and valuable to the SJS Form 5,'76. Put it on ebay!!!!!, see what offer you get. LOL.

The design of the t-shirt also look like a scary pumpkin on halloween night!!! - big event, especially in the US/Canada, getting popular in England too. An excuse to "scare" people and dressed up in scary costumes, especially kids in vampire, dracula, monster costumes going to their neighbour houses - asking for trick or treats, all good fun really.

  16. WJ, another item we were given is the school badge. The gals pinned it to our white shirts. Now we know why we were asked to wear white shirts though a few recalcitrants did not. Hehe.
Anyway, put up a pic of the badge Mr. Jaga.

  17. What? You think they never saw a St Joe badge before? Maybe u can wear your badge and take a photo of yourself, then I'll post it up, lah Mr HM No. 1. Everyone is keen to find out who the mysterious HM No 1 is ...

    ReplyDelete
  18. Aiyah, some many have not seen it for over 30 years lah Mr. Jaga. I'll wear it to be photographed if you can be the photographer. Deal?

  20. Anon 9.19am, that is a genuine/original badge. What was given out on 23rd is a replica. However, this replica badge is still priceless(unlike a Rolex replica) . That's why WJ should show a pic of this priceless replica.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Pip, you're the one who still has the original badge. Can you do me a favour and take a picture of the original and the replica side by side & send for me to post. That'll be more interesting, no?

  22. Oi! fighting up n down over a badge ka?

Both badges, then and now, are still the same in terms of design and color. Only difference is original one with no coating of 'glossy' surface.
