ReplyDeleteRobert ,
ReplyDeleteI am in . Pls collect the RM 100 from Bob chew please.
James Yong, Datuk Justine Jinggut, Nicholas Lau paid - confirm coming. Bravo,Thank you!!!
ReplyDeleteyesssa!! Mark 'Khan' Chin from Mongolia...u da men....see you at the reunion bro
ReplyDeleteThere was a debate at Choon Hui Cafe this morning whether can bring bini or gf. My vote is 'Boys Only'.
ReplyDeleteIn this, I have the support of my wife Gina who said [this morning], "this is a very special night for you guys. Go and enjoy yourselves."
cannot bring bring both is it?
ReplyDeletebig ones ma, big 50 for boys only so bini tak boleh la, if bini botut botut(betul2)mau datang, come lo, d more d merrier la.
ReplyDeleteHey, Georgie boy
ReplyDeleteDoes Gina realises that there will be lap/pole dancing by "pit stop" type females!!!!!. LOL.
It looks like the ayes have it - "BOYS" ONLY do and no exception! unless the attendees are authorised and registered entertainers!!!!!!
mmmmmm....don't forget the Lynx spray for the night boys.
I am confirming my attendance and have paid.
ReplyDeleteapa itu Lynx spray, Anon 8:56PM ?
ReplyDeleteaiyaaaah....to attract cha boh...lah
ReplyDeleteMana can beli this Lynx spray? Apa ini this new invention, kah? Could have used it back in 1976, lah. Maybe could have made a difference to a few that got away!
ReplyDeletepmsl.....we were using long kang water in those days. LOL
ReplyDeleteAnyway, if you cannot get Lynx you would have to cari other brand, lah or use plenty of lux soap.
Philip Chin and Brenda Lee - paid and confirm coming. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteWhat Lynx Spray ? Do you guys used Brut spray ? Still remember it ?It was so popular then rite guy
ReplyDeleteKopi?
Robert,
ReplyDeleteIt's Brendan lah. Not Brenda ... thought PC is bringing some strange girl along!!
Sorry, but who is Brendan? Kinda new name - like Jensen!
Brendan Lee Sin Foh, lah !
ReplyDeleteHeck, I thought that you guys had managed to snare Brenda Lee, the US singer from the 60's for the night's entertainment.... and that I was her escort. Trust George to spoil my illusions and WJ too, for that matter!
ReplyDeleteTuan Jaga
ReplyDeleteJohnny Tan not Tang ,my mistake "sorry Boss". Pls amend Johnny'surname to Tan,thank you so much.
Ben, edit done.
ReplyDeleteCan someone contact ALfred Wong, Peter Ngiam, Liew Jiew Neang, Alan Jerah ... all in Kuching I believe ... and let them know about the Reunion.
We represent "Amazons Anonymous @ 76", a bunch of roses intending to gatecrash the Reunion. Beware. And remember roses have thorns. Ha ha ha ha ha ha (sardonic female laughter echoing away ...)
ReplyDeletere: Amazon Anonymous - Some of us might have stood them up on dates back in 70s la ... now they wanna "pau cho" (revenge). We no afriad. We can trim the roses!
ReplyDeleteNo worries, Gardener. If they come, we catch hold of 'em and put 'em on the stage ... I understand we are looking for some pole dancers anyway ... heheheheheh ... [evil cackle fading away ...]
ReplyDeletehi boys, we need to be systematic in ensuring every single member of our F5(76) cohort knows about this event. We cannot assume everyone can use the Internet, so we need to reach them by other means - mobile phone, house phone, visit their home, write letter to them, put in newspaper(ada discount in NST kah?), podt on noticeboards, tell John at St Mike, scatter flyers from a plane ..... hehehe
ReplyDeleteOthers who are/may be still in KCH are (just to name a few to prompt your aged memories): Lo Soon Wing (Malayan bank); Tan Yok Hai; Stanley Chong; Sim Khee How; Ch'ng Seng Chai; Phang Miaw Fah, Melvin Goh (was/is with the local newspaper - Tribune (now defunct I heard); Teo Soo Hock; Bakir Sapawi (I thought he is with the Ministry?), Stephen Guan (where is this guy now); Aband Ariffin (small funny and always laughing chap, anyone know where is he now?); David Chieng; Lim Cho Chua; Robert Ong; Alan Jerah; Francis Lee; Liew Jiew Neng; Ong Poi Jin; Ng Wei Khiang (is he the one who is now a priest?).
ReplyDeleteSo come on guys, like Anon 3:20 said, use all those necessary gadgets or forms of commnunication to contact those who were in our year. A few days advert in the local papers is ideal as well as using the other media, like radio announcement, etc. Let's make it happen to get the maximum participation and attendance. Good luck boys, good effort so far...keep it up.
How about create a topic in facebook or other social networking sites.
Walau..Maintain as Breda Lee.Siok..lah throw in some excitement ma whenever ladies are mentioned. All these 50 years old men need jump start.
ReplyDeleteSorry lah PC your so-called escort has been reviewed.
Can our esteemed Organising Committee consider some of the ideas proposed above? I fully agree that we need online and offline methods to reach all the boys wherever they may be.
ReplyDeleteone of the fastest to reach the gang in Kuching would be to use radio. I suggest we contact the local radio station to do a morning drive time interview with Ben Wong or Khoon Teck. They will do it.
ReplyDeleteDear boys & Dato' Anthony,
ReplyDeleteI agree. Like the olden days where you can hear annoucement thru RTM Kuching in all languages like Malay, Iban, Bidayuh, Melanau, Kayn, Kenyah, Chinese etc...In Iban they called it "Jako gerah"... very effective too. Dtk JJ, I think this is the only way to contact Mike Patrick Umpau in Kanowit...this guy is very secretive or sunyi all these 3 decades...Maybe ,only this way we can contact him & the others...what say you?
I am worried bcoz the list of attendees seem not to increase but stagnant lah ...like Tasik Biru !!
Bon weekend,
Sinos
Jangan worry la Sinos. We'll start a marketing blitz soon to reach out to more old boys via whatever means possible - radio, newspaper, even carrier pigeon and message in a bottle if needed.
ReplyDeleteAlso don't forget the old habits of most of us boys, leaving everything to last minute - like studying for exams - so there will surely be a surge in numbers later on. Soon it won't be like Tasik Biru ... but waterfall la!
We should get the editor or someone from current SJS Ad Astra to cover this momentous event & do an article.
ReplyDeleteguys, who would be willing to appear on ntv7 breakfast show to talk about our very own 1malaysia from 33 years ago. I can arrange for the person or 2 persons to be interviewed by daphne iking. want or not?
ReplyDeletewhere are bakri zaini, abg zamhari, abg azhar, abg ariffin? come join us for innocent fun..heheheheh
ReplyDeleteI like you idea Dato AM. ( not PM )W e should advertise a page in the local newspaper like Borneo Post ans the Eastern times.Ntv7 is also a good idea. I will nominate Ng Koon Teck to do the marketing and "rounding up" the boys.
ReplyDeleteSo can ntv7 interview Koon Teck please ?May be Ben can help him ????
What about the Form 3 1974 people? People like Wee soon Hua ( Joe Burner), Ma siaw Kiat,Tan Pheng ( I believe he is in SESCO )
Thanks WJ and the organizing committee

ReplyDeleteBob Chew should be able to contact Poi Jin and Wilson.
I am busy trying to reshuffle my year-end travelling plans with my family so that I can be in Kuching for 23 Dec. That is why my name is still on the second list. :-)
George
ReplyDeleteSo busy and difficult reshuffle your year end holiday kah, where are u.....going?Our reunion is only 1 nite on the 23rd Dec.You can go holiday before or after the reunion LoL,what is so difficult?Come and join us on the 1st board listing and no excuses.
Lawrence Kuek Thian Chai comfirmed coming and he will try to get a few more fellows.
ReplyDeleteHis contact no. 013 8169419
Francis Lee confirmed coming.
ReplyDeletemaybe we need to serve lawyer GL a Summons to get him to turn up. LOL
ReplyDeleteI can imagine about 100 or more guys meeting up after 33 years. We will probably talk about the old days, what we did, asked who we married and how many kids we have, etc. I bet our kids are also excited about who their dads classmates were and who they are now.
ReplyDeleteThis should be a nice reunion and it should be a humbling experience for us and keep us close to our roots, wherever we are and whoever we have become today.
I have good reason, lah. My son is sitting for his SPM which finishes on 15 Dec. We planned to go to Perth for 2 weeks after his exams.
ReplyDeleteBut if got to attend 23 Dec Reunion, then have to cut vacation back to one week. Means got to look for someplace a bit nearer.
If I attend the 23rd 'Mother of All Reunions', you can definitely count me in for the breakfast the next morning.
'Morning After Breakfast' should be open to all. Bring the whole family so our wives and children can all get to know each other.

ReplyDeleteHello, what about your teachers? Any confirmed coming? Anyone contacting them?
ReplyDeleteP/s - of course they don't have to pay right WJ?
Anyone sponsoring the presence of Bro Columba?
ReplyDeleteLeonard, aren't you in the wrong class? Not gate crashing their party are you?
ReplyDeleteWill be nice to see Leo and any other old Josephians at this grand reunion. Re sponsoring Bro.Columba or any of the other esteemed Mill Hill brothers, I am willing to contribute to the fund.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind contributing to sponsorship of Bro Columba's ticket.
ReplyDeleteWhere will be coming from?
If from London, I can try to get good price on Asia X, XL seat which would be comfortable like old bis class seat.
Let's get the ball rolling, Dato. You check out the price and let us know on this blog. I don't mind contributing too. His presence will really make it the 'Reunion of all Reunions'!
ReplyDeleteLeo, I'll defer the decisions on charging, admin & logistics to the main organising committee (Ben, Robert, Koon Teck, etc)
ReplyDeletehow much is return ticket on Air Asia for London?
ReplyDeleteAnon 12:23am, Leo is an honorary member of the 1976 club. In fact, if you read the postings on this blog, he's more active than some of the real McCoys! LOL.
ReplyDeleteINGAT HOH BOYS, KALAU BRO C DATANG, TENTU TAK BOLEH POLE DANCING . HEE HEE HEE .
ReplyDeleteI spoke to Bettie Leong [Mrs Alfred Wong] yesterday. She said she has passed my email to Alfred but he thinks he may have some 'prior engagement' on 23 Dec!
ReplyDeleteAlfred! We are booking you more than 2 months in advance, lah. You can surely 'disengage' yourself for one night ... hehehehe.
Gina told Bettie that we are canceling our trip to Perth so I can go to the Grand Reunion. Instead we have to make do with Singapore ... Jimmy, hope the crabs are worth it ... PMSL!
Mana tahu? Munkin Bro C 'shiok' pole dancing too. Dia sudah retired, boleh enjoy sikit sikit, lah.
ReplyDeleteGeorgie boy - are the crabs good? Just look at the expression on JK's face when he feasted at Eng Seng. There's your answer.
ReplyDeleteAnyway beside crabs, there's always genuine Singapore Chicken Rice at Middle Road, satay & oh luak chien & ak kut teh at Newton Circus, and beer & peanuts at Raffle's Long Bar :-)
OK, lah. I'm sold. Now to sell the idea to my family. Pip, if we do go [tentatively 16-21 Dec], you wanna drive down? Bring Sophie?
ReplyDeleteJimmy, you sure you not on a retainer from the Singapore Tourism Commission? Can you suggest a few things to do [family-oriented] besides feeding our faces the whole time?
Robert /Ben - Pls include Curtis Teo . He is now in the USA and will be back in Kuch during this time
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 12.23 AM, no lah don't care to gate crash. They have bouncers to keep us out. Probably Wee AH and his buddies. lol.
ReplyDeleteKalau Bro.C datang, pole dancing tak boleh, we can have pole vault mar....
ReplyDeleteHope the organising committee can assign someone to locate all the teachers and book their calender EARLY before they make other plans for their christmas. For those already overseas, this may even be an excuse for them to make plans to spend Christmas in Kuching!!
ReplyDeleteGeorge,I'm unlikely to drive down as i'm unfamiliar with the place. Plus, I dont fancy spending 4 hrs behind a wheel. A comfy coach or plane i think. Am definitely bringing Sophie, prob in the next few weeks.
ReplyDeleteGuys,
ReplyDeleteSpoke with Dtk Sri Tony Fernandes, Air Asia, last nite. Bro Columba's tickets from London to Kuching (if he is in UK la) and return, on XL seat (biz class std) will be free.
So would appreciate if someone could get the details; communicate with Bro C if he is willing to come, date of his travels etc. I will pass on to Air Asia.
Cheers! Happy deepavali!
Well done, Dato AM. Great when you know people in high places :-) The organising team will check with Bro C on his availability.
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff, Dato' AM! Bro C is based somewhere outside Belfast, not a million miles away from Philip Hii, who's also somewhere in N.Ireland, my home from 1991-1997.
ReplyDeleteI hope someone can get the details asap cos I need to get the bookings done quickly. As u r all aware the reunion is during he xmas season which would be a peak traveling season. tq
ReplyDeleteI have just sent an email to Brother Columba. Let's keep our collective fingers crossed that he will accept.
ReplyDeletePeter Ngiam confirmed coming.
ReplyDeleteVincent Toh confirmed coming
ReplyDeleteWah lan You got the connection AM Dato. Can We get the PM or the DPM to come to grace the reunion so as to attract more former classmates to join ???
ReplyDeletePp
Hehehe...if we invite them to Sarawak now good chance they will come, especially for our 1Malaysia 1976 Form 5 Gang.
ReplyDeleteNow Sarawak is very critical ma...
Hey guys. Can we get a guest speaker. Just for fun, maybe ???
ReplyDeleteWhat about Datuk LAT ?
Form 5 /76
Hi all,
ReplyDeleteI sent an email to Brother Columba to invite him to come to our Grand Reunion. His email in reply is reproduced below.
Dear George,
Thanks for the email and to all concerned for the kind and generous invitation to your coming Grand Reunion of the '76 Form 5 Class. The invitation is greatly appreciated but unfortunately I will not be able to travel at that time, and am informing you immediately so that you can proceed with your arrangements for the Big Night.
As some of the class will know, I was in Kuching for 3 weeks in January of this year, and even if I were free to travel, a second trip in one year would probably be a bit much!
I have greatly enjoyed browsing through the contributions to James Yong's blog and am delighted that so many are registering for the reunion. The names bring back so many happy memories, even if I have difficulty associating 'faces' with some of the names; probably ones who were neither 'famous' nor 'infamous' in school!!
I am particularly happy to note that the Reunion incorporates the 3 classes and reflects the multi ethnic/religious composition of your society.
I find it difficult to believe that 33 years have slipped by since we campaigned together and that most of the class have passed 'Batu 50' on life's journey this year! Makes me feel ancient!
I hope you get a realy big turn out for the occasion. Thanks again for the invitation, for offers of sponsorship and to Anthony for his contacts with Air Asia, all deeply appreciated.
Please convey my very best wishes to all. My thoughts will be with you across the miles on 23rd. Have a lovely evening, enjoy it to the full, and God bless all.
Warmest regards,
Brother Columba.
Dear Dato Anthony,
ReplyDeleteCan I have the free ticket to fly back from London instead.
I can try my very hard to dress like Bro Columba and I promise I wont forget to bring the "Rotan " when I check in with Air Asia.
Thank You Dato.
Chow
Imitation Bro C
Bro Columba says we shd enjoy the night to the full, boys !!! Pole dancers !!! LOL
ReplyDeleteBro Columba
ReplyDeleteI was really good to hear from you. I am sure I was one of the neither famous nor in-famous ones in school. hehehe
Maybe we will one day arrange a group trip on Air Asia to visit you in Ireland.
By the way I can still remember how the thin rotan slid down your sleeve like magic.
Or the way you suddenly appear at the back door of the classrooms while some of us were napping (actually we were trying to focus and think hard).
I also remember the time when you caught a few of us going home early on Fridays, supposedly going for Friday prayers. You have spies even in the mosque!! hehehe
Anyway, thank you sir for everything you have done for us.
Cheers!
Now we can get Anon Imitation Bro C to fly to Ulan Bator and help Mark Chin bring back the 'tent' pole dancers. Yeay!!!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately no flight from Air Asia to Mongolia yet.
Imitation Bro C, if you wish to get a special discount (not amounting to free ticket) from London to Malaysia, let me know your details asap. Can try la. Did you go for communion, missed mass, etc? That will determine how much discount. hehehe

Dato'Anthony,
ReplyDeleteI met Mrs. Moggie and her husband in St. John's Catholic church in Siem Reap way back in late 2007. She still looks the same & her husband , though aged a bit. I was the one to approach them, introduced myself and also spoke Iban to her husband.( He was pleasantly surprised, I think)
I think they had a shock in meeting one of her students in a place like Cambodia !!! However, my invitation for a lift back to their hotel was declined as they preferred to walk. They are really a nice & simple couple.
Thanks,

ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know where WILLIAM CHEE is ? He's another 1959 boy, and a classmate for many of my Primary School years. If we can find him, can grab him for the Reunion too.
ReplyDeleteAnother chap we haven't been able to locate is SIM PHENG SIEW from 5Sc. I believe it is now Dr Sim, armed with a PhD in biochemistry or something like that. Anyone know his whereabouts and can contact him? Another suggestion is to go to his family's shop in Padungan (near the Police station) and ask. Any volunteers?
William Chee also my old friend. Parents used run an Optician shop opposite the Open Air market in town, although not sure it is still there now. William Lim too, used to live at Rambutan Road, off Rubber Road?. Any ideas?
ReplyDeleteIt was called Tong Nam Optician. I don't think it's there any more.

Thank you Tan Pheng for your support and participation in the website.
Hi...Organising Committee and Hon Treasurer (Grand Reunion, Form 5, 1976), Mr RC. I wonder if some of the ringgits collected have been spent on "advertising" about this special event, i.e announcement in the local and national media? As well as the proposal to get one or two representative to have a radio interview or even tv coverage if the right strings were pulled. [talking of radio/tv coverage, an old memory just came to me, can you guys/gals remember Christina Tan?, who used to be a popular song bird in KCH, I wonder what happen to her now, inviting her too?, sorry to detract from the subject).
ReplyDeleteSo come on guys, we need maximum exposure and to lead the way on how to organise "big" event. Will be the envy of all "Old" boys/girls schools in the country/state/KCH!!!! The mother of all events....sorry lah, get a bit carried away....so looking forward to it, lah.
Kuan Chee Kok ; Peter Lam ; Francis Lee - paid.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
WJ, pl promote them to the 1st listing.
Young "Old" boy - is it christina tan or christina foo?
ReplyDeleteMust be Christina Foo and I was told she was performing at the RTM, Sarawak at some point? Memory going now for me.....mmmmmmmmm
ReplyDeleteYoung "old boy" you're too young to remember, leave it to the "Old man"
ReplyDeleteYoung "old" boy, obviously you have not kept up with times. You really need to keep yourself updated. Performing at RTM is ancient history.
ReplyDeleteNo 'fighting' boys, younger "old" boy is belly belly correct, its Christina Constance Foo, used to live at Nanas Rd West. younger sister of Celine Foo. Used to perform at RTM n she plays the guitar too.
ReplyDeleteHai WJ, how come our part 1 blog no business one ho? Seems that part 2 is hot. Btw, any of you knows where Janerius Liew? Sorry, can't spell his name already, has a brother name Benjamin, active scout, used to live at Rubber Rd West.
ReplyDeleteHello Kopi O Pok, my goodness, what an unusual name. Business is OK over here, very hectic with my tour with Barry n Robin. A real pity brother Andy is not around with us any longer or else he would be age 50n like you all, and so is Michael Jackson!

ReplyDeleteWe leave the manager to do the job lah.Did you also see the other pole dancer she brought?
ReplyDeleteYoyoyoyo she is more chun than that girl (re WJ's Mini Manor), more more chun than Miss Saigon also..
