Juke Box Jive

I'm sure most of you remember the jukebox at the old St Mike. Hopefully we'll be able to see it again (hint, hint to someone!), and maybe one of you towkahs will even want to buy it over from John and restore it to its old condition.

In the meantime, we have this alternative for you ...

So to start playing your favourite numbers from 1976, click on THIS.

Enjoy ...

  1. Good Morning James, you are really good....lah the "missing Juke Box" has been found by you.

  2. I'll have to share the 50 sen with Chris Sim Kay Guan who found this jukebox website.

  3. Hint hint... that someone mentioned he will get it over last weekend. Another weekend is here now.
Maybe I'll get it done over next weekend. And while at it, will discuss with Ah John the price he is willing to sell it for. So standby one of you towkays (not towkahs as stated by the WJ).
Or maybe WJ has broken his piggy bank for the acquisition. Yes WJ?

  4. Sorry lo, haven't located the old an original juke box, think John said it's at his mum's house where he stayed there before.

Anyway, for the time being we use the juke box given here, free of charge!

    Well done WJ!

  5. Even if the jukebox were recovered and found to be working, there's still the problem of finding the 45's, ie the vinyl records or "singles" as they used to be called ... usually one song on each side. Maybe Ah John or his family still have the old ones from the 70s.

And anon 11:24AM, no lah ... I couldn't afford to bid for the antique jukebox.

  6. Anyone still got their old, old record collections?

  7. WJ, Music Lover and others interested,
my dad still has over 200 vinyl records in his collection. intend to get the collection from him one of these days as he does not play them anymore. furthermore, he has already given me the player which should be over 40 years old. still in great condition.
so no problems with Ah John's jukebox if and when it is recovered and restored.

  8. Just for info for all of you, Ah John's jukebox is beyong repair already, kaput, no spare parts can be found.

  9. Jukebox beyond repair? Never know lah .. with the Internet, we can ask whether anyone in the whole wide world has the required parts.

  10. Calling class electronic wizards, Lim Ngee Hong and Herbert Ting Tong Kong. Your services are required to bring the jukebox back to live.

  11. In the US,there are many cafes and pubs with a retro theme that still have many jukeboxes. So I reckon still possible to get spare parts for the old St Mike's jukebox if we really wanted to

  12. OK guys, here's the latest news with regards to Ah John's jukebox. He said he'll need to clean it up first before photographs can be taken. Very dirty and dusty, lying in the corner of his garage, broken and according to him, he said it's beyond repair, most of the parts are gone or damaged.

He has promised to clean it up and later on he'll get his son Philip to snap pictures of it and pass the photos to me, which I'll scan and send to WJ. Is that OK guys? The ball is in his court now.

If there's anyone who thinks he can do the job more faster than me, by all means, be my guest and I'll hand my job to him officially, with WJ's approval of course.

  13. actually it was damaged due to flood waters. it can still be refurbished. make full use of the woodworking skills/knowledge from Simon Lo for this purpose. then use the artistry of Lee Hock Kia for the paintwork.
other than that, it may not be so bad mechanically or electronically that the wizardry of RLNH & HTTK may not be needed.
So Norbert, go check it out.

  14. Ya, forgot to ask John whether the jukebox is for sale or not la. Maybe he'll donate it to us and then from there we will all work together to fix it and get it going again, ok or not guys?!

  15. Norbert, you're the best man for the job. I think it's a good idea to ask John if he's ready to hand it over to us. However we need to first decide where to put it & who's got the skills to assess the repair possibilities? In fact, I wonder if our goal ought to be to get the juke box running again and put back at the new St Mike premises for current and future generations to enjoy. Maybe we can add a little plaque to show that we were the cohort that restored it. What do the others think? Are we being over-sentimental?

  16. Ya Norby, ya de man for the job. And yes, good suggestions by Jimmy. Yes lets do it. And JUST DO IT.

  17. To date Ah John has yet to call me to collect the photograph of the original jukebox. Think I just drop by at his cafe again tomorrow and ask him about it.

  18. Very easy Norby, get into your car, drive over to St Mike, pick up Ah John, get him into your car, drive over to his house, go into his house, stand beside the jukebox, take out your csmera, click click a few times with or without Ah John beside it, get back into your car, send Ah John back to St Mike, go home, boot your pc, transfer pictures from camera to pc, then send to WJ via email or MSN. Done in 1 hour or less. Over to you Norby.

  19. Haha...funny! i am amused with the way u advised Norby, Anonymous on Feb 2,2010 1:57pm

  20. OK Anonymous, 2nd Feb, 1:57PM, why don't you do that for all of us, i.e. if you are in Kuching. You know, sometime talking is very easy, in fact too easy, but when you put it into action, wah, so difficult.

Suggest Anon, 2nd Feb, 1:57PM call Ah John up to find out WHY it is so hard to just take a photograph of the jukebox. You have his number ka?

  21. oh oh. Gina is amused but not Norbert.
