George and Gerard Get-together

.
This photo was sent to me a few days ago. (You need a new phone camera, Georgie Boy ... the resolution just ain't good enough.  We have high standards on this blog! LOL).

Anyway, it looks like a great meeting of old chums in Kuching ... I reckon the two haven't met since way back in 1971 when Gerard left St Joe after Primary 6 and took up a scholarship to continue his education in Peninsula Malaysia. That's almost 40 years!!!

I'll leave GL & GH to comment further on the where and when and how ....

  3. Called up George on Wed, 28 April, and he agreed to a meeting at his office. He made the appointment at 1.30pm. Somehow I was too eager to visit him and was there at 1pm. In fact he was still in a deep legal discussion with clients. Anyway, he told me to sit and to wait for the meeting to end. Yup, the meeting ended at 1.30pm sharp.

George brought me to have lunch somewhere around his office. We spent a happy afternoon reminiscing of the past(primary school days), we also talked about work, family, etc. He was curious that I still remember a lot of SJS. I told him my heart is still with SJS.

I was sad leaving SJS coz my English was already bad at that time and of course it got worse. To be honest I barely passed my Form 5 English. Anyway, I told George WJ's blog is not to gauge ones English, but it is a blog where old friends meet having friendly discussion of just 'chia-tua-pau'.

Jimmy was my close buddy in school and with the help of the internet I finally got hold of him but it was a little too late for the Big 50 reunion. In his email to me our legal adviser actually hinted me to get an MC if I had exhausted my leave. LOL.

It was great meeting George as it was sort of a history coz he is the first SJS classmate I met. I believe George is doing pretty well in his industry.

I just hope that those 'anonymous' will reveal themselves so that we can communicate better. I would love to meet you guys even just for a glass of teh tarik. We can't wait for another 40 years! We will be 91 years old LOL.

    Cheers!

  5. Philip Chin, after a discussion with Norbert, I only realised it was not you hiking the bus from SJS to the 7th mile those days. It was Francis Chin but all along I thought it was you. Maybe we were quite close buddy those days that I remember you more ;-)Apologies bro. Perhaps dementia is creeping into my head. LOL.

Guys, is Francis Chin photo around WJ's blog? Can't even remember how he looked liked then. Jeez! I heard from Norbert that he has gone bald and with the absence of some front teeth.

    Cheers.

  8. Hey, Jimmy, I just bought this phone, ok? I think the photo came out pretty clear. ;-)

Gerald, sorry you had to wait in the office. I did tell the clients that I had another meeting at 1.30pm. I just didn't tell them that it was with an old schoolmate that I had not seen for 40 years.

Yes, we had lunch at Kings Centre where my office is located.

Gerald told me he was one of those selected to go probably because his BM was good. I cannot imagine how the 3 of them could stand being sent away from home at that tender age to live in a dormitory and study in an all BM school.

Yes, Gerard and I had a good time traveling down memory lane. His memory is so good, I am so envious. We chatted until mid-afternoon when I had to run off to another meeting.

Btw, I was in KL over the weekend with my family and we had dinner with Philip and his lovely daughter Sophie.

  11. Still looking good, guys. Gerard, I recall you were quite pale looking in your younger days in SJS. You certainly haven't change much. Like they say, it's good to keep in touch and it's certainly good to talk.
    Best wishes

  12. Coffee shop is Mega, Kings Center. The two G's are sitting on Mega 1's table. Guess the two of them must be eating laksa or curry rice.

The lovely lady who took the photo must be the waitress from Mega 1 coffee shop.

  13. Hi Gerard! I was telling George that I very much doubt if I can still recognise you but in fact, (save for the JY look-alike moustache) you haven't changed much. I remember your brown hair and cheeky grin! You're looking well bro.
I thought I was suffering from dementia as I couldn't remember anything about taking the bus to 7th mile. lol But I did take you to Chin Lian Long bus depot at the open air to buy your season pass. We're gonna qualify for the senior citizens pass soon. ;-p I hope to catch up with you one of these days.

  15. John, absolutely correct. I was pale (fairer skin) those days, leaning more to mom's side. Mom is Chinese, whilst dad is Melanau. I'm slightly dark now. Been using motorcycle around Sibu all the years. It's convenient. Anyway, I still have my 11 year old junk (wira), but it is still loyal. LOL.

Yup! Keep in touch brother and you too take care. Cheers

  16. Hi Phil! I knew you did take me to the old bus depo at the Open air market. Walao! that was long long time ago. So I owe you one ;-)

I was staying with my uncle and aunty (both are nurses) in a govt flat somewhere at the 7th mile. I think the flat is opposite the famous 7th mile mental hospital. I think Francis Chin's mother was a nurse too.

Yes, Phil, we will meet. Cheers
