Adventures in South China (Part 1)

.
From 17th-23rd April, a small group led by "old China hand", Ben Wong, visited a number of interesting locations in South China. The intrepid adventurers included Norbert Liew, Anthony Chung, Edward Chin, Robert Chin, Chris Chu (from a number of years after us) and Basil Wee (of Tabuan Jaya curry fame).

They had a whirlwind trip, going to Macau, Zhuhai, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Guangzhou and HK all in 7days.(note: some went seperate ways when they arrived at Zhuhai.)

It was a first trip to China/Macau/HK for Norbert, Edward and Basil.

Ben sent me quite a number of photos, so this posting will be spread over Part 1 and Part 2.

First we have a photo of the team in Macau. I believe this is at The Venetian casino ? Guys, help me out here.

Later they went to the train station and took a bullet train ride to Shaoguan and back. It was an interesting ride, travelling at a top speed of 348 km/h.

Well, I'll let the adventurers provide you with the details behind these photos.

More exciting stuff on Dongguan and Hong Kong, and in spas and singalongs. Watch out for Part 2.

  4. Certainly a whirlwind trip for you guys - 6 locations in 7 days, it a no wonder most of you looked so tired. At least you can say that you have been to China!!!!. Having said that, I remembered many years ago (probably about 15 years now) that I took my mum and sister on a coach tour of Europe covering parts of France, Belgium, Holland, Germany and Switzerland, all in 7 days. I swore that I will not go on a coach trip ever again after that.

I am sure you all had a good trip and it's the company that made the trip more memorable, I am sure.

  7. Dragon ladies of PRC
Against all odds, travelling across the sea
Arrived at our shores of abundance
    to ply their trade
    with lofty vision ahead
    in our mushrooming centres
    of so-called REFLEXOLOGY.
    To some horny geezers
    they are heaven-sent teasers
to fill the life of redundance
    with glee and abandon.
But a word of caution, my friend
    these seemingly innocuous flowers
    could be a fiend
that might cause massive marital collapse
    in the very tragic end...

  12. John, you were travelling 5 countries in 7 days and that was 15 years ago, we were travelling nearby cities in only 1 province in southern China in 7 days . Most of the time we travelled by the highspeed train in between cities unless it is not available we travelled by express bus.Distance we travelled in between cities is usually between 1-2.5 hours. Not too bad or tired where we pampered ourselves with massage practically everyday and nite and it's cheap in China.Lots of good Cantonise cuisine and fun and I am sure Norbert can share some details later....
Why those guys look tired is because of late nite....you know lah!

  19. Pic.11, pi.11, pic.11, everybody wants to know WHO is that smiling girl in pic.11.

OK, she's just some girl we met at the train station, actually, she helped to take our group photos. Her lovely friend is at the background, sitting down, see her? Satisfied everyone?

Ah Loot is a good boy, in fact, we all are, I mean behaving ourselves, just like when we were at St.Joe in the early days.

Trip was fantastic, can't thank Ben enough for showing us around China. Real hectic though, running here and there. Didn't get enough sleep too, late dinner, late supper so late sleep. Early morning checked out hotel and started running again. Was fun though doing all that. Don't mind having another go into China.

Food was good, we ate roasted goose, which I never had before and don't think many of us ever did too. We also had Peking duck, etc, etc.

  24. Come to think of it, Anon 10:56AM is right, we should have worn the black T shirt we received during our reunion dinner.

Never mind, we'll do it next time or whenever we have any outings in future. Will take note of that.
