Gastronomic Tour around KL

We spent the past two and half days in KL. Purpose was to attend a friend's special dinner party.
Caught up with Pip, CLK(f), HG & (briefly) KCK & LC. The trip quickly turned out into a wonderful gastronomic tour.

Here's what I had on my "eating list" ...

(1) Beef kueh teow and char siew mee, followed by delightful desserts of ice kachang & chin chow at Petaling Street (the "Chinatown" area of KL)

(2) Hokkien mee, roasted duck, fried rice, and spicy pork soup in Damansara.x
x
(3) Tiramisu and chocolate cake at Alexis, Bangsar Shopping Centre

(4) Dim sum at Restoran Jin Xuan Hong Kong in Damansara Jaya

(5) Green chicken curry & softshell crab with salad at Delicious @ Bangsar Village

(6) Teo Chew Claypot Bak Ku Teh, Assam fish & Veg somewhere at Subang

(7) Burnt Coconut (Kelapa Bakar Utara) by the roadside

If all this sounds delicious, that was because it really was. Yummmmm ... It was also the reason why there were no postings over the past few days. Burp!

Ladies & gents, thanks for the wonderful hospitality.
xx

  4. Peter,

You are right on both counts.

Next food tour will be after we shed off the excess kilos or whoever comes to KL, which ever is the earlier right Pip?

  8. Roasted fresh young coconuts were the rage in many parts of West Malaysia about 5 years ago.Used to be sold at every pasar malam. The juice and flesh is supposed to offer many health benefits but the craze has since died down and now it can only be found in very few places outside KL. In this case, in Kampung Subang.

  10. LeeKien,
Seems you know all the great food places too. Fantastic kaki to know.
I saw a 'kopitiam' at the junction of soi 26 & sukhumvit road and am tempted to try the food, but the premises doesn't look tempting tho. Had been let down b4 with malaysian/nonya stuff here. Ah well, will call you when I do a KL trip.

  11. Peter,

Pip knows all the nice places. As he is a fantastic cook he knows whether the ingredients are fresh, beef used is fresh, oil used is new blabla..

I only know how to eat!!

Yeah sure give us a tinkle when you are in town.We will do a food tour. (My Emily wants to interview you too-how to be a designer, she likes to draw...).

Meanwhile if you have the time visit

  12. leekien, me too, i only know how to eat. and i crave hawker stuff...
thank goodness, there's no shortage of other variety here. i head straight to the carpark (@ nite only), next to ritz when i come to kl.
ps. encourage emily to draw and colour: the fun doodle could lead to a passionate career. work becomes fun n it's fun to work. great choice for girls. downside is the long hours, dirty sites n poor monetary reward esp in this recession.
