Then & Now - Part 9

In this installment of "Then & Now", we feature two of our old friends, both of whom were reconnected via this blog quite recently.

First we have CLF, from Form 5 Sc (1976). Back in the old St Joe Form 5 days, I always remembered him as the tall lanky guy, who sat on the left side of the class, and who was very strong in mathematics & physics. Naturally he became an engineer, after attending university in Singapore. He is now working for the Land Transport Authority in Singapore, managing underground train network projects. He is married with two children. Soon after reconnecting, he came on the recent Siem Reap reunion trip, and was responsible for many of the great photographs you see.

The "Then" shots were from Pri 6 and Form 6, and the "Now" photo is quite current.

Next we have BC from Form 5 Arts 1 (1976), who made his first comment only today. I go back a long time with Bertram, even to early primary school. I remember he was a talented artist, especially of action hero figures like Chinese swordsmen and kung fu types. I wonder if he still draws? These days, he is an accountant by profession, and is a Tax Director in a life insurance company. He lives in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada with his wife and son.

The "Then" photos were from Pri 6, Form 3 and Form 6 respectively. The "Now" shot was submitted by BC only today, so is current.

Looking great, guys!
xx

  3. Hehe..you're too kind, JY..i could only draw scribbly stick figures inspired by all those low budget HK sword fighting movies. As I recall you produced quite a few original comics complete with script and story that we all were always eager to read. I haven't Seen those primary school pics in years..btw, are any of the brothers still in kch? I hear that bro. Columba is in Belfast. What happened to bros. Adrian and Mark?

  4. Both Bro Columba & Adrian are in Ireland, just outside Belfast. Bro Columba came thru Singapore to Kuching earlier in 2009, and ex-Josephians had a dinner for him here as well as in Kuching , Sibu & other places. You can read about the S'pore dinner in one of my earlier postings.

I understand Bro Mark is in HK, tho' my info may be outdated.

  5. Thanks, James. Wow, they must be getting on in years. They were good educators and though nobody's perfect, I think St. Joe was the better because of them.

  11. hai guys, Norbert Liew here, sincerely hope u all r well n still kicking huh. Most of you may not remember me for I left St. Joe in 1974, after form 3, so I am not a 76 form 5 guy la, but I do remember most of you.

  12. Hiya Norbert, no worries! Whether you were in F5(76) or not, as far as I'm concerned - and I'm certain all the guys agree - you're part of the cohort who grew up together in the 70s. How could you NOT be part of the gang after our shared experiences in Siem Reap? LOL

  13. ya loh, Norbert Liew. why not you send photo of you in the 70s, so WJ can put in a "Then & Now" of you also.

  14. Yalah..Norbert, I agree 100% with WJ. Certainly, you're our gang, my friend. We grew up together in the 70s, in Form 3 and also as "altarboy" in St. Joe. church.
    Don't worry Be Happy.

  15. Yes, Norbert, I agree with them all. You are certainly one of us, Siem Reap or not. In fact, all those Josephians, Teresians, Marians, Thom... (errr ... maybe not that one LOL) from the 70's are part of our gang.

WJ, maybe it's time to reconsider the title of this blog. Cast the net a bit wider cos the guys and gals who check in are certainly not just the boys of St Joe Form 5 '76.

Matter of fact, the Friday before our reunion at Ipoh Town cafe, I met Lina Wee (Teresian, '77) in the corridors of the High Court. She asked me, "So you guys meeting up at Ipoh Town?" Turns out she knew cos she'd been checking out our blog.

I asked her to drop by but she said "Shy, lah". Lina, if you read this, drop us a line cos you are one of the gang too.

  19. Hi Bertram,

Thanks and I am OK, man. Getting older but still young at heart and everything else lah ..heehhee!!

How I ended up in Siem Reap ( Cambodia) is a long story lah but to summarize it...Cari Makan lah..

Yes, I have asked Datuk Anthony Macpherson to start the idea & ball rolling. If all OK, perhaps we could jumpa this Christmas . We wait for the response of the others. Can you imagine, how it will be to able to meet up again after all these years?

Come & visit Angkor Wat, if you have the time while I am still here, Sir.

Do continue to keep in touch. God bless you & family too.

    Regards,
    Sinos
