    ReplyDelete
  13. Are you sure, Leo?

    ReplyDelete
  14. I think the Round Tower (photo 1) is some kind of tourist or culture centre now.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Anon 12.14am, lready won a no prize so giving others achance now.
btw. Mr. WJ, did you get to finish the Kuching A to Z series? i remember only up to part 4. or did i miss something?

    ReplyDelete
  16. i don't think Leo could possibly know all 8 of these ... hehehe ... challenge you la Leo

    ReplyDelete
  17. Naaaaaah Leo, it got a bit monotonous doing the A-Z series, so there's a temporary hiatus on that. May revive it later if I'm in the mood ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  18. Photo (2) is a society of some kind.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Well, Mr. WJ, that temporary hiatus is now a full calender year i think. Series 4 was March 2009.
    anon 6.17, what's the challenge? :)

    1. Round tower is now the Sarawak Craft Center. built in 1884, in front of GPO.
    2. Kwong Wai Siew Society around Carpenter St.?
    3. Advocate office, at a lorong at Carpenter St.
    4. Chong Clinic building, Carpenter St., next to Hong Leong bank.
    5. No.35, Open Air Market stall, next to Ah Mui beef noodle stall.
    6. Indian/Muslim Restaurant at India St.
    7. Sign board somewhere near to CPS and Central Padang.
    8. Mr.D at Carpenter St., don't know the 'D' name. could be David or Darren. RM20 a night lodging house, sometimes RM18.

  21. Aiyooooooo Norbert, so many salah! How can friend? U still live in Kuching or not????? LOL

    ReplyDelete
  22. Identify yourself Anon 11.41am, don't be chicken, I think I got three wrongs only, not so many salahes.

Yes I still live in Kuching, if you are, I can drive over and pick you up and I'll show you that I got most of the places correct!

Maybe you are jealous that I can get all correct? Haha.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Norbert, I think you got 5 completely correct, and 3 only half-right. Not quite A+ I'm afraid but certainly a strong B . LOL

    ReplyDelete
  24. For Photo (3), I need the answer to be very specific to be considered correct.

One particular chap (and he knows who he is) is not allowed to answer that one !!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Really? Nobody knows all the correct answers?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Jimmy, I can't be that Kuching-kia anymore. Been away too long. Miri 1977-1978, Bintulu 1978-1980, Sibu 1980-2009, Mukah/Sibu 2009-todate.

Most recognizable pic is no. 5. Took the sio-bee plus the beef noodle next door. Cheers

    ReplyDelete
  27. Still no winner?
and anon 6.17, still don't believe that i can get 8/8 and is your challenge on?

for now let me name no. 3 which is:

    GEORGE LO & PARTNERS
    49, 1st Floor, Block F,
    King's Centre, Jalan Simpang Tiga
    93350 Kuching
    Sarawak, Malaysia

I suppose that's why Number 3 looks darn familiar to George. Hehe.

Will lodge the other 7 with the WJ.

    ReplyDelete
  28. ok Leo, it just means you know ONE of them ... still 7 to go ... hehehe

    ReplyDelete
  29. No.1 is opposite the post office and beside the textile museum. 'Sarawak Craft Council' where there's authentic sarawak handicraft..
anon 6.17 (and 4.09) still 6 to go you will say.

    ReplyDelete
  30. That one so easy la, Leo. How abt 2?

    ReplyDelete
  31. No. 2 should be Kwong Wai Siew at Ang Cheng Ho Road.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm impressed you know (2), Leo ... you Cantonese kah?

    ReplyDelete
  33. anon, which one would you like to know now?
btw, i am Foochow, but don't know where Foochow Association is.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Sooo clever .... try No 6, Leonardo !

    ReplyDelete
  35. No. 6?
Aiyoh, why all the Kuching Kias cannot get it right 100%? Leave it to a Miri resident lah.
Among the many shops at India Street I can recall are Salih Ahmad (Textile), KK Abdul Majid (Books & Mags) and Malaya Restaurant. And No. 6 is Malaya Restaurant. Jubilee Restaurant should be another nearby there.
    Anon, anymore challenges?

    ReplyDelete
  36. ok, ok .. Leonardo knows his Kuching. Obviously our friend very free and often "measure the road" up and down India Street and rest of town. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hey anon, I am in Miri lah. Measure Canada Hill maybe.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Photo no.2 is The Cantonese Mutual Aid Society at Jalan Ang cheng Ho. Formerly the gound floor was a snooker center, now call 'The President' KTV.
