Let's see how many of you recognise where these places are ...

ReplyDeletei think i know 3 of these .... errrrrr maybe 4
ReplyDeleteGOT PRIZE OR NOT FOR GUESSING ALL CORRECT, WJ?
ReplyDeleteSure, I'll prepare the usual fantastic "No Prizes" for the first one to get all eight correct ;-)
ReplyDeleteMr D B&B is on Carpenter Street.
ReplyDeleteIs Photo (7) of a snooker or billiard hall somewhere
ReplyDeleteLet me try..a few of them
ReplyDelete1. It is called the Round Tower infront of the General Post Office.
4. I think it is the Kwong Wai Siew Association building at Carpenter Street.
5. One of the many stalls at Open Air Market.
6. Jubilee Restaurant in India Street
7. Top Spot Eating Place at Taman Kerata.
Ron, I'm just going to tell you how many you got right (like in the Mastermind game).
ReplyDeleteWell ... 4 right answers.
Now you got to figure which one was wrong. Ha ha ha !
On the Round Tower, check out
ReplyDeletehttp://www.etawau.com/HTML/Kuching/RoundFort.htm
Number 3 looks darn familiar to me!
ReplyDeletewas the Round Tower ever a real FORT?
ReplyDeletei can get 8/8, but do not want to deprive others of the chance to get the 'No Prize'.
ReplyDeleteAre you sure, Leo?
ReplyDeleteI think the Round Tower (photo 1) is some kind of tourist or culture centre now.
ReplyDeleteAnon 12.14am, lready won a no prize so giving others achance now.
ReplyDeletebtw. Mr. WJ, did you get to finish the Kuching A to Z series? i remember only up to part 4. or did i miss something?
i don't think Leo could possibly know all 8 of these ... hehehe ... challenge you la Leo
ReplyDeleteNaaaaaah Leo, it got a bit monotonous doing the A-Z series, so there's a temporary hiatus on that. May revive it later if I'm in the mood ;-)
ReplyDeletePhoto (2) is a society of some kind.
ReplyDeleteWell, Mr. WJ, that temporary hiatus is now a full calender year i think. Series 4 was March 2009.
ReplyDeleteanon 6.17, what's the challenge? :)
Let me have a go:
ReplyDelete1. Round tower is now the Sarawak Craft Center. built in 1884, in front of GPO.
2. Kwong Wai Siew Society around Carpenter St.?
3. Advocate office, at a lorong at Carpenter St.
4. Chong Clinic building, Carpenter St., next to Hong Leong bank.
5. No.35, Open Air Market stall, next to Ah Mui beef noodle stall.
6. Indian/Muslim Restaurant at India St.
7. Sign board somewhere near to CPS and Central Padang.
8. Mr.D at Carpenter St., don't know the 'D' name. could be David or Darren. RM20 a night lodging house, sometimes RM18.
How many correct WJ? any A+?
Aiyooooooo Norbert, so many salah! How can friend? U still live in Kuching or not????? LOL
ReplyDeleteIdentify yourself Anon 11.41am, don't be chicken, I think I got three wrongs only, not so many salahes.
ReplyDeleteYes I still live in Kuching, if you are, I can drive over and pick you up and I'll show you that I got most of the places correct!
Maybe you are jealous that I can get all correct? Haha.
Norbert, I think you got 5 completely correct, and 3 only half-right. Not quite A+ I'm afraid but certainly a strong B . LOL
ReplyDeleteFor Photo (3), I need the answer to be very specific to be considered correct.
ReplyDeleteOne particular chap (and he knows who he is) is not allowed to answer that one !!!
Really? Nobody knows all the correct answers?
ReplyDeleteJimmy, I can't be that Kuching-kia anymore. Been away too long. Miri 1977-1978, Bintulu 1978-1980, Sibu 1980-2009, Mukah/Sibu 2009-todate.
ReplyDeleteMost recognizable pic is no. 5. Took the sio-bee plus the beef noodle next door. Cheers
Still no winner?
ReplyDeleteand anon 6.17, still don't believe that i can get 8/8 and is your challenge on?
for now let me name no. 3 which is:
GEORGE LO & PARTNERS
49, 1st Floor, Block F,
King's Centre, Jalan Simpang Tiga
93350 Kuching
Sarawak, Malaysia
I suppose that's why Number 3 looks darn familiar to George. Hehe.
Will lodge the other 7 with the WJ.
ok Leo, it just means you know ONE of them ... still 7 to go ... hehehe
ReplyDeleteNo.1 is opposite the post office and beside the textile museum. 'Sarawak Craft Council' where there's authentic sarawak handicraft..
ReplyDeleteanon 6.17 (and 4.09) still 6 to go you will say.
That one so easy la, Leo. How abt 2?
ReplyDeleteNo. 2 should be Kwong Wai Siew at Ang Cheng Ho Road.
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed you know (2), Leo ... you Cantonese kah?
ReplyDeleteanon, which one would you like to know now?
ReplyDeletebtw, i am Foochow, but don't know where Foochow Association is.
Sooo clever .... try No 6, Leonardo !
ReplyDeleteNo. 6?
ReplyDeleteAiyoh, why all the Kuching Kias cannot get it right 100%? Leave it to a Miri resident lah.
Among the many shops at India Street I can recall are Salih Ahmad (Textile), KK Abdul Majid (Books & Mags) and Malaya Restaurant. And No. 6 is Malaya Restaurant. Jubilee Restaurant should be another nearby there.
Anon, anymore challenges?
ok, ok .. Leonardo knows his Kuching. Obviously our friend very free and often "measure the road" up and down India Street and rest of town. LOL
ReplyDeleteHey anon, I am in Miri lah. Measure Canada Hill maybe.
ReplyDeletePhoto no.2 is The Cantonese Mutual Aid Society at Jalan Ang cheng Ho. Formerly the gound floor was a snooker center, now call 'The President' KTV.
