Hi George,
Greetings again from Belfast. I revisited the '76-ers blog site again recently after a lapse of some time and was happy to see it is still very much alive! Some expressed a wish to get a pic of the Bros who served in SJS and are now retired in Ireland. I am forwarding to you the only one I have and hope it comes up all right for you. The full names of the Bros are Adrian Gaule, Columba Gleeson and Mark Blake. Mike Chew was in U6A in '73 and has been resident in Canada for many years. He was conducting a conference here last Sept. and I drove him to visit Adrian and Mark in Castletown. The pic was taken outside our Nursing Home where they are both resident.
Re. the suggested trips, if some do plan to visit Ireland it would be wise to get in touch well in advance, before finalising dates etc as I am often tied up with the running of Kilmore House, particularly at weekends and for some weeks in July and August. The house is used by a variety of groups as a venue for their own residential programmes and I need to be present at these times.
It is great to note that the Grand Reunion didn't end with the 23rd Dec bash but is being carried on in the form of continuing contacts and proposed programmes. Continue to enjoy it all.
Warm regards ,
Bro. Columba.
Hi Bro Columba,
ReplyDeleteIt is certainly nice to see all of you in good shape . Pls convey my warmest regards to Bro Adrian and Bro Mark. I also want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for the dedication you all had given to St Joein those wondeful years . We all of Year 1976 are much indebt to you all in so many ways . God Bless.
Nice to see them all hale and hearty despite Bro Adrian and Bro Mark being in a nursing home.
ReplyDeleteAnd Michael Chew, he was my teacher for 1 term in Form 1 year 1974.
Greetings to the Brothers. Glad to see you all well. Hope to be able to make it to Ireland one of these days and meet you in person.
ReplyDeleteIt has been a privilege to be a Josephian and to have been taught and guided by Bros. Adrian, Mark, Columba and all the other dedicated brothers and teachers.
ReplyDeleteSo true, Pip. We were the fortunate ones. Spare a thought for the kids of St Joe today who are missing out ...
ReplyDeletebros adrian, columba and mark...thank you very much for your commitment and dedication. i remain your humble student and son of SJS. we wish you good health and hope to visit you this year. cheers!!!
ReplyDeleteBros Adrian,Columba and Mark, greetings, glad that you are all doing fine and really looking good, hope you do remember me,Bro.Columba i think you definitely will.Hope to be able to communicate more with you.All the best to you all.
ReplyDeleteHurray !!!! Finally WEK joins in !!!! Welcome buddy !!!!
ReplyDeleteMike Chew ... hmm, any relation to Vernon and Bertram?
ReplyDeleteWe are eternally grateful to these brothers for providing us the necessary education so that we can go out to the far corners of the world and be successful, or be what we are today.
ReplyDeleteThank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Hopefully, we can come and share a pint of Guiness with you in Ireland one of these days...
I would like to mirror all praises and gratitude as mentioned already to our former teachers and the La Salle brothers who had guided us through our school years.
ReplyDeleteThanks again for the services you all had rendered although it may not be seen as appreciative at the time.
It is so nice to see Bros Columba, Adrian and Mark looking so well, especially Bro Adrian whom I fondly remembered. I may be the one who was responsible to have ended his rugby playing days when I "rough" him up in a tackle during one of our training sessions...hahaha.
Bro Columba, Bro Adrian and Bro Mark, may I wish you all good health and best wishes.
Wei WEH,
ReplyDeleteGood to see got reconnected after all these years.
We are all grateful to the brothers for what they have done to us..athough at that time, we thought the brothers are mean & fierce but I am sure all of us now realize, it was for our own good.
Bro. Mark, I caan see the rokok is still with you !!. Bro, Adrian, we miss your rugby & hockey coaching.. Bro. Columba, you still look very muda lah..
God bless you all & best wishes
That beautiful photograph conjured many memories...Brother Adrian...holding the cane...as he would have gladly traded it for a hockey stick and urging his charges on in the process....( especially when we crossed swords with our Brother-school St. Patrick's )
ReplyDelete...rumours had it that Bro. Adrian and Bro. John only communicated through sign language after St. Joe beat ST. Patrick's (TWICE, mind you !! )- sibling rivalry..you may say...(just joking) during the 1976's Inter-Schools Urban and Inter-Zone Finals.
St. Patrick were the defending Champions - the powerhouse...with the likes of Michael Tan, Beng Hoe, Tan Pheng, Soo Kiat...But we also had Nicholas Lau, Ik Chei, Bernard Lee, Benedict Tham,Alex Linggi...it was like a Merseyside derby...Liverpool Vs Everton..you may say. But the matches were played at "Anfield"...our St. Joe's hockey pitch..our impregnable fortress !!
And Bro Columba...in his trade-mark pose (once a Principal, always a Principal)...a book in one hand and at full alert for any signs of "indiscipline"
....and our Bro. Mark...whom we affectionately nick-named "panjang"....with his hands full....walking aid in one hand and a cigarette in the other..and smiling for a "Rothmans" advert, I guess. Who says smoking is hazardous to our health ?....not so...if you are a La Salle Brother...and living life to the fullest....
Cheers, to all three Brothers..and the rest..Bros. Hyacinth...Henry...for leaving so much impact on our lives and for a legacy that can never be forgotten or re-written.
Last, but not least..to Michael Chew for shring this gem of a photo with us..and to WSJ for keeping the spirit alive after the "highs" of the Reunion has tappered off...
Cheers and a "Beautiful Sunday" to everyone !!!
By the way...our Class of '75 will be having our Reunion this coming Friday..12th Feb 2010..and with spouses and ex-Teresians...about 60 of us will converge at Hornbill Restaurant, Sarawak Club !! and soooo cloossse to Valentine's Day too!!!
Our only challenge is to find a website Jaga in the mould of "Sir" James Yong..James "YOUNG at Heart"..!!
Regards
Edmund
Hi.Sinos, long time no see or hear, how are you, thought you are in k.l.as was told by late Banister Drake few years back when i met him at tabuan jaya.Good to hear that you are good, keep in touch.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the Class of 75 can outsource to our WJ for the right price, ELAS. Ha ha ha.
ReplyDeleteCan anoyone update on Bro Hyacinth and (for ex-SJS/SPS like me) Bro John as well?
ReplyDeleteBro John was Principal at SPS till 1979. And he was the last La Salle Bro there. SPS was also a considerable force in Sports esp. rugby, hockey and certain athletic events while Bro John was there. Things went downhill almost immediately after he left.
Ya, Anyone has any news of Bro Hyacinth ? Also, I would love to get in touch with Bro John.
ReplyDeleteThanks.
Please help!
Hi ELAS, when u attend your Reunion this Friday, can you check around if members of the Class of 1975 are keen to "adopt" a set of St Joe classes if the Class of 1976 adopts one set?
ReplyDeleteEach set would probably be around 4 classes making up one form, and the idea is to fund the renovation and upkeep for some years.
Let's continue this discussion under "Giving Back".
after all those years i`m so glad to see Bro. Columba,Bro Adrian and Bro.Mark.My warmest regards to them.
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is that once the Brothers left, everything always go downhill.... Hmmmm.. I wonder why???
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if contact can be made with any or all of the 3 Bros, either by email or regular mail? Or whether someone has Mike Chew's email.
ReplyDeleteshalom to bro colomba..
