Yes, it's the JUKEBOX.
Feast your eyes ... doesn't it bring back fond memories? How many ten cent coins had you deposited into this Rowe AMI music machine in your younger days? Even the last singles cover displayed there (Fig 2) seemed to be frozen in time, still reflecting the Beatles era of the 60s and 70s ... ha ha ha !

Now, let me show you some zooms of the actual music titles that could be chosen when the machine was eventually decommisioned.

Ahhhh ..... Wasn't that nostalgic?
I think selection V4 could be quite an appropriate theme song for this website.
Anyway I hear that John, Matthew & co may try to see if this machine can be restored. Not sure if it's possible but they will look into it. Any of you guys have the engineering or electronics skills to help them out? I reckon if it is possible to be restored and displayed, it will certainly bring a retro feel to the present St Mike's ....
FINALLY ... What we've been waiting for !!! Thanks John, Matthew, WJ !!!
ReplyDeleteThis is worth waiting for ! Great WJ !
ReplyDeleteI wonder when St Mike stopped using the jukebox . From the music titles, I guess maybe late 80s or early 90s? Michael Jackson's "BAD" came out around 1987.
ReplyDeleteH8 ... "Rhinestone Cowboy" Glen Campbell ... WOOOOOOOO !!! Haven't heard that for years!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Norbert & whoever else who got the message to John about the JukeBox !! Many many old boys thank you for this chance to see this old memory-filled antique.
ReplyDeleteIsn't B9 "When will I see you again" by the group Three Degrees?
ReplyDeleteThat was once dad's favourite group !
ReplyDeleteHow was the JukeBox spoilt?
ReplyDeleteAnother one of popular oldies was Don McLean's American Pie and was regularly played on the Jukebox at St Mike's.
ReplyDeleteSomeone mentioned that the jukebox was damaged by water. Some flooding I believe. Would whoever knows please confirm?
ReplyDeleteThe song J0 "(Everything I do) I do it for you" was by Bryan Adams, and was featured in the movie "Robin Hood" in 1991. So the jukebox was still in use in 1991.
ReplyDeleteI remember that line of dancing figures toward the top part of the jukebox. hahahah
ReplyDeleteOMG. The jukebox ! It's found !
ReplyDeleteCan someone fix it. PLEASE !
Helbert Ting Thong Kong,Can we fly you from Canada to see if you can fix it.please.
My favourite was "Butterfly"
What "Butterfly" ? Where got that song?
ReplyDeleteThanks Grateful, very thoughtful of you to remember that I did something to get the photo of the jukebox on to our blog.
ReplyDeleteActually I didn't do much but just taking the time to drive over to Ah John's place at least three times and pestering him for the photo. Think he must have gotten tired of looking at my horrible face that he quickly snap the jukebox and sent to WJ
Well, my job is done!
WJ, can make the old jukebox play songs bo? Like the one posted earlier? Think can la ho?

Answer: That beautiful song by Danyel Gerard 1971 in Spanish....later made popular by the malaysian group "October Cherries"
A beautiful love song...about a girl called "Butterfly"
Fell in Love,in the wink of an eye...
With a girl who was called "Butterfly"
She said she loved me so she couldn't let me go...
But still, I had to say goodbye...
Butterfly...my butterfly...I'll come home to you one day...
Butterfly, my butterfly...wait for me don't fly away....
Cheers !!!
Which button do I punch to make the jukebox sing leh?
ReplyDeleteAh Nadai Bisik, what you do is hold down CTRL and ALT and press the screen on label with the name of the song you want. This needs to be done while standing on one leg.
ReplyDeleteWei Pseudo WJ, you trying to pull my legs ka? How come it didn't work? I tried a few times already. Anymore smart ideas for us? Don't play play one.
ReplyDeleteDidn't work, Nadai Bisik? Did I mention you need to stand on your left leg, and also on tiptoe? And with your right hand, touch your nose.
ReplyDeletePseudo WJ, still doesn't work la. You said to stand on one leg but didn't mention anything about tiptoe and right hand touching my nose.
ReplyDeleteTried all that already, still cannot.
What's the next method brother?
