Grand Reunion Updates #4

Another week has gone by. It is now 2nd December 1976. Exactly three weeks to the Grand Reunion !!!

Enjoy the news headlines for the day ...

Thailand had security problems 33 years ago, and nothing much seems to have changed in that department !

Malaysia Cup was and still is a crowd puller (didn't Negri Sembilan just win last month?).

Update

I'm not going to give any extended update this week, except to thank all the generous guys from the Class of 1976 who have been so forthcoming in their extra sponsorship for the event.

I saw so many "red marks" against their names in the Grand Update (Part 2) posting ... but unlike on our report cards 3 decades ago, these red marks are GOOD things, ok? LOL.

  3. How did Sarawak do? What is their status now in terms of standards/position in the Malaysian league? I recalled there was such a hype which generated so much interest from the people of Sarawak when the Sarawak team was doing so well (albeit only for a short period), was it back in the 80s? - The Nyap Sayot era?. A few of us even went to watch a few of the cup matches. Can anyone of you remember and did you go and watch any of the matches? Such patriotism and pride brought people together. This is one of the reasons that the Sarawak governemt should invest and encourage local businesses to sponsor and create a strong, unbeatable football team. Resurrect the Nyat Sayot feeling. The Chelsea or Man U of Malaysia!!!!. A newly form company called "SJS Form 5 of 1976" could sponsor the shirt with our unique logo on it!!!!!. With all the "connections" we have got amongst us - surely be able to achieve that goal. We got the political wings, the media, police force, lawyers, accountants, engineers, businessmen, bankers and many others. ...the Pheonix has risen from the ashes - A Dream team

Malaysia Cup should invite Singapore back. At least then you have a "bogeyman" to try trash and rally the country. Inter-state not interesting any more leh.

  5. As far as I'm concerned, Sarawak team is gone, out, no more, finished. Did very, very badly last season, only a handful supporting them now. Malu to talk about nowadays. I remember when S'wak team was hot, got home match we would go to the stadium at 6.30pm when the actual kick off time was 8.30p! Heard they are building up another new breed of youngsters to play but will that win back the confidence of the supporters? Don't think so.

  6. Very sad and say no more. Thus reflect the spineless management of certain people in high places. After all these years of "learning" and still has this illness of self profiteering and narrow minded thinking. Lets pray that one day our descendants will be much much wiser and our elected representatives will make us proud to be called Malaysians/Sarawakians, for the rest of the world to envy.

    Keamanan kepada semua

  14. You know what ?

Our National Soccer Squad has been officially invited by UNICEF to take care of the abused children in Asia.

When interviewed by CNN, the FAM President asked the UN Secretary-General why the Malaysian Football Team was given that honour.

The UN Sec-Gen replied : Because we feel that abused children will be safe under the care of the Malaysian Soccer Team - afterall, they just cannot beat anyone !!!!
