Got a note from Alfred Wong today who bumped into Simon Heng in Sibu today ...
Simon moved to Sibu in 1977 to get married. He has 3 children, the eldest girl being 30 and just got married last year. The youngest child is in Form 4.
Simon is in the taxi services business, so if any of you have transportation requirements in or around Sibu, give our old formmate a call. He can be contacted at 016 866 3321.

Full name is Simon Heng Sing Hong, yes?
ReplyDeleteAlfred is exactly what i remember him as when we were in class....
ReplyDeleteYou looking well, my mate!
Yes, his name is Simon Heng Sing Hong
ReplyDeleteIf I can remember Simon, he's one of those 'quiet' boys back then right? somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
ReplyDeleteKeeping his hp no. already, just in case ada pergi Sibu.
is that Sibu Airport, Alfred?
ReplyDeleteYes, that is the Sibu airport. Aprox 24Km from Sibu town.
ReplyDeleteNext mini-reunion in Sibu Town!
ReplyDeleteSibu airport car-park to be precise.
ReplyDeleteOk to reunion in Sibu at Hong Fu Restaurant and Chuan Yang Seafood or whereever.
I never knew Simon is in Sibu all this while..I'll call him for cab service on my next trip...
ReplyDeleteI go to Sibu fairly regularly for court cases. Count me in for a Sibu reunion.
ReplyDeleteThe crabs at Hai Bing are huge and mighty tasty. Compared to WJ's Singapore crabs, the Sibu crabs are the granddaddy of crabs. I have not tried Hong Fu or Chuan Yang. What's nice there?
So, when is the mini reunion in Sibu? Any precise date yet?
ReplyDeleteMaybe we can just go over during one of the weekends?
Simon Heng how are you?You look good, remember me,I used to travel to Sibu when I was back in Kch.Should have got in touch with you if i know that you are there.
ReplyDeleteHey, people! I just returned from Sibu. Called Simon yesterday afternoon to book his cab. Arrived Sibu Airport at 7.45am and he was there to greet me.
ReplyDeleteWe didn't know each other - could not remember each other from school days but what the heck, we're from the class of '76 and that's all that matters!
As we were early, he took me to a vegetarian coffeeshop where he had vegetarian kampua mee while I had a cup of green tea. He's vegetarian, in case any of you want to have lunch with him on your next trip out there.
My case ended early, I called him and he was back to the Court to pick me up and send me back to the airport.
He's a friendly chap, so please call on him when you are out that way. After all, you need a cab, why not ride with a friend, huh?
That's the spirit, Georgie Boy !!!
ReplyDeleteGuys, if we extend this spirit of channeling business to each other wherever relevant, this group could be economically very beneficial too !!!
Alfred, Simon, nice one! You too Georgie Boy!!!
ReplyDeletehi WJ, can we put a few ads on your site for our small businesses? Ka ki lang, don't have to charge lah :) Or at most have a very discounted fee, can?
ReplyDeleteI fully support Georgie boy and WJ's suggestion of channeling business to each other, provided it is not being used inappropriately . The prime example being our so called dear friend using the services of the most feared lawyer in the land of Hornbills to sue some of us for an incident dating back to the 70's in London. Luckily it was all settled out of court with Steak at Westin Hotel, Quadruple bypass beef burgers and Lobsters. LOL LOL LOL
ReplyDeleteChanneling business between friends is an old practice referred to as "Old School Tie"... except that few of us wore ties back at St Joe ...
ReplyDeleteJK, some of us who had to fork out damages like steak, burger, lobster and what not are thinking of appealing and getting recompensated.
ReplyDeleteGerard, there's a chance I might be popping by Sibu for a day or two in 3 or 4 weeks time. Maybe we can catch up for kopi and kampua mee.
ReplyDeleteAnd Simon, will call you too, so we can have a small micro-gathering ...
ReplyDeleteSomeone suggested that the boys from Kuching make a trip to Sibu (for a mini reunion) by express bus. Anybody any comment? To drive ourselves over is out, we want to enjoy the view from the bus mah.
ReplyDeleteAny of our classmate a bus driver or owns a bus? Maybe can get good discount or a free bus trip too, friend friend mah.
Jimmy, you're MOST welcome. that goes to the rest of our classmates/schoolmates.
ReplyDeleteWow! Wow! I met Simon Heng Sing Hong at the airport around 11.30 this morning (10th April). I was there to send my wife who is flying back to Kuching. She was in Sibu for the Ching Ming.
I am glad to get in touch with Simon though we have never met. Simon joined SJS in Form one, but I left in Primary 6. Of course he was happy to meet me perhaps a potential customer (LOL). It was kind of funny when I asked Simon whether he is Simon Heng. He quickly got off his taxi and replied that Simon is his Christian name, but a Taoist by practice. Yup, he is a vegetarian.
Simon was sheer delight when talking about children. He told me he has three and the eldest is a teacher with SMK Sacred Heart. And Simon's children semua pandai pandai. I am glad for him and I told him I too share his happiness.
Simon's taxi business is just OK (cukup makan). And he needs your support. To any SJS boys using his taxi to or fro the airport there will be a 20% reduction from the coupon price.. Wow!
boleh tahan. By the way, his taxi no. is HQ81.
I had another surprise encounter with another SJS76ers. He is Francis Lee. Francis called me at 4.30pm about 5 mins ago. He asked whether I am the same Gerard his MBA (UNIMAS) classmate. Francis graduated the same time with me and Francis was most closed to me when he was in Sibu. Well, he is coming and we gonna have a round of breakfast soon.
Wow! what a wonderful world...Oh Yeah!
Ooops! I forgot.. Simon was delighted to catchup with Alfred Wong and of course our legal adviser George Lo. He hopes to meet more of you soon..sooner...soonest. haha... Cheers!
ReplyDeleteI don't remember Francis Lee but I remember a Francis Chin in primary school. Big sized boy - he used to push me around. Ha ha!
ReplyDeleteYou remember him Gerard?
Simon didn't give me the 20% discount, leh. But never mind, lah. He cari makan and me on expense account ...
Gerard, I shall call on you and Simon the next time I come to Sibu. I try to come for an overnight trip. We can go to Hai Bing. You and me eat the big crabs and Simon can have some vegetables. Poor chap doesn't know what he's missing ... LOL.
OK, George, no problem on the meeting in Sibu. But I guess we'll meet in Kuching first. I am on- leave from 24th April to 2nd May. I may pay a courtesy call at your office if that's convenient. By the way, where is this Foudy Goudy you mentioned? I am lost! haha...
ReplyDeleteGeorge, I think Francis Lee was your form 5sc classmate?
Cheers.
Always welcome, Gerard, but better to call me before you drop by in case I am in court or out for a meeting. 455166.
ReplyDeleteFrancis Lee? Jeez, my memory is blank! Sorry, Francis, if you are reading this ....
Francis Lee was at the Grand Reunion in December. See him in the group photo. Yes, definitely our 5Sc classmate from 1976.
ReplyDeleteIt's Foody Goody Gerard, shop somewhere at the Specialist Center at Stutong Commercial shop houses.
ReplyDeleteFrancis Chin, used to stay some where at seven mile area. He's a landscaper, mostly Gov't projects outside of Kuching. Met him a couple of months ago, last year to be precise, his looks has changed a lot, with nearly 'botak' head and with four to five front teeth gone.
Norbert, Thanks for the info. Actually my house is somewhere there (opposite One TJ). Family moved-in early April last year. I will be on the look out of the place. There's a dim-sum shop somewhere at the Stutong market. Any comments, Norbert? From a scale of 1-5.
ReplyDeleteI will check on you too, brother. You're still with DBKS. I have hell lots to complain...just kidding. haha...
Cheers
Didn't know there's a dim-sum shop near the market Gerard but will check it out when I'm free kay?
ReplyDeleteYeap, still with DBKS, well, whatever masalah you may have, SHOOT! haha.
MBKS or MBKU or DBKU or DBKS?
ReplyDeletealphabet soup la!
ReplyDeleteMBKS also same same with DBKS but not the same with DBKU.
ReplyDeleteMBKS- Majlis Bandaraya Kuching Selatan
DBKS- Dewan Bandaraya Kuching Selatan
DBKU- Dewan Bandaraya Kuching Utara
Just for the sake of those who still do NOT know what MBKS or DBKS and DBKU stands for.
Never heard of the 'Tale of Two Cities' meh? So sad......
Quote : 'Simon moved to Sibu in 1977 to get married'.
ReplyDeleteSo Simon moved there for a Sibu ga? And got married in 1977 immesdiately after Form 5 at the age of 18? Wow ... must have been the first of the 76ers to tie the knot.
BTW; Dato AM also mentioned Simon in his blog here : http://outofborneo.blogspot.com/2009/10/my-classmates-and-teachers-from.html
Seems that they (and some others) were also together during primary school.
From the horse's mouth, Simon told me he came to Sibu in 1979. His eldest is 30. Cheers
ReplyDeletesimple calculation indicates that he married in 1979 and then got to it immediately with the first child in 1980. hehe.
ReplyDeleteis Simon a grandpa yet?
Simon told me he went to Sibu with a few friends to look for work. He did not go there to get married ... :-)
ReplyDeleteI think his eldest is getting married soon. Shall we gate-crash the party, Gerard? LOL.
Is he inviting all former classmates to the dinner of his daughter? If so, then have to book Airasia ticket to Sibu lo.
ReplyDeleteLike Georgie boy said, we gate-crash if not invited. haha. So, what say you simon?
do u all remember agame we played as kids called "Simon Says"?
