Names on Boards in the School Hall

During our St Joe visit, we had a chance to enter the school hall (William Tan Auditorium) where we saw all the wooden plaques on the walls, which recognised individuals who had held various positions for the school - whether it be in school management or in achieving leadership roles in various extra-curricular activities.

Here are some close-ups of the individual boards ...

The Principals

The Board of Directors

Hey, my old man's name is up there too!
(albeit with a typo ...Should be Kwee instead of Swee)

Head Prefect

Victor Ludorum (Sportsman of the Year)

Red Crescent - Head Section Leader

Scouting Awards

I think I captured all the boards. Please let me know if I missed any.

Congratulations to those whose names appeared on them. Or whose children's names appeared on them.

We're proud of all of you.

  7. Time for J Yong Jr to follow the footsteps of J Yong Sr and be President of the Old Boys Asso.
Let us all be at the next AGM and vote him in.
    Come on Class of 76.

I shall be anon for now.

  8. Good idea. SJS needs a 21st century President to update the school digital infrastructure and processes. The Cisco kid is perfect for the job.

  9. KC, I recall you got the Victor Ludorum in 1974 or 75, right?

  11. James, from a sporting perspective, 1975 was a good year. In those days, the Chinese schools dominated boys basketball but, in 1975, the SJS B Division team comprising the likes of Wilson, Fook, Denis Lee Hau Aik, Simon Ngu, Ng Wei Hua and others beat Chung Hua MS No 1 in the final to win the interschool championship for the first time ever (SJS was never strong in basketball).

It's funny how that memory was revived for me some 30 years later when I was having dinner in Perth with Uncle Bob and a friend of his, a certain Mr Wee, who happened to be in the losing team. Mr Wee told me he was so devastated over the loss that he could still remember it 30 years after the event. He was magnanimous enough to pay for dinner.

Sorry for reliving old sporting glories.

  12. I agree with annon 3:04 pm...
James Yong S L should be on the St. Joseph's Old Boys' Association Board for 2009.
By his blog, we have reconnected and the events that have been organised and posted so far deserve such recognition.
As Jan 3rd is the 1st anniversary of this blog, I wish it Happy Birthday and many happy returns!
Thanks again James for your hard work!

  15. Good memories, Kevin.
If anyone has photographs of our former basketball teams, games or matches, do send them to me for sharing.

  16. You're very right Sweaty Boy, these days the school hall is air-con, in fact, almost every school does, some even have air-con in their classrooms!. In our time our little fans can hardly keep us cool, cannot afford air-con at our time ma. Even our pocket money can hardly fill our tummy at the canteen during recess.

  17. WJ, there were 8 boards on the wall. You have 7 photos of the boards. One is missing. Anyone remember which one?

  18. Well done to those, whose names were on the board, esp - KC/NL/CM

I just wonder: why the Bros' names listed on the boards were not consistent. Some have their full name and some do not but everyone else were.

  19. KC, don't even think of previous years ... even the current years don't seem updated. Look at Head Prefect board which goes only till 1984, and Victor Ludorum only to 2003 ! Surely there's more. Can someone who know people in the school admin check with them?
