Basketball Memories

Only yesterday Kevin reminisced on a very effective St Joe basketball team from 1975.

I then asked if anyone had any photos of our basketball games or teams, and as though by magic this came through a few minutes ago ... thanks to our buddy Fook !

Enjoy, all you sports fans ...

And do tell us what you remember of those glorious days.

  8. Thanks for sharing, Fook - a photo from 35 years ago - we were only sixteen ... only sixteen ... and we love 'em so ... (haha, apologies to Dr Hook) ... and many in the team were even younger.

The team's success was emulated by the following year's team captained by Denis Lee (1978 Head Prefect and my good friend and hostel mate at NUS). After that, I believe the Chinese schools re-exerted their dominance - does anyone know whether SJS ever won the championship again?

Slouching, Kopi-Si? That's what I've been doing all my life!

  10. Guys at the back are sitting on a bench, that's why they look short. Is the background the wall of the toilet? All very handsome la, even the teachers!

  11. Sorry, back row guys are sitting on railing, 1st floor, library block. Not toilet wall said earlier. Behind the wall is the stairs up.

  12. Look at the white canvas shoes. Those were the days before exorbitantly priced Nike and Adidas and NBs shoes ... when the good old Bata canvas shoes were the only types recommended (permitted?).

  13. Yeh JY . And anyone remember how we used to clean and whiten those shoes?

  14. I remember I use a white block of powder, you need to add water, and you apply it on your shoes. Lots of fun.

Anybody knows where NG WEI HUA is now? Is he in Kuching? Thanks.

  16. You mean Ng Yaw Hua's brother? Yaw Hua is SJS78 while Wei Hua is (SJS79).
Just had a get together with Yaw Hua and some SJS78 fellows on New Year's Day.
Gatb, if you can identify yourself, I can probably let you know.

  17. So who were the expert "shooters" in this team? Who were the "blockers"? Or other roles?

Anyone want to describe some of their nifty basketball moves? ha ha ha !
