The Ipoh White Coffee Gang

Another mini-gathering of St Joe boys happened only a few hours ago at Ipoh White Coffee in Kuching. So you could say this photo is "as hot as the coffee being served".

I won't bother to name individual members of this handsome bunch, as most viewing would probably be able to recognise them all. If you don't, just ask lah!

  1. Walau! That was fast!

  2. Is Kuching coffee so bad that it has to be imported from Ipoh ? And why has it got to be "WHITE" coffee (that is considered discrimination in the US) ?

  13. A youthful gang of 50ers. More like 30ers. So it's true that 50 is the new 30 - at least in Kuching.

  15. the four guys in the middle have a glow surrounding them...they must have reached grand master of 'Ipoh white coffee' status.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Ah yes, the 4 gentlemen must belong to that highly esteemed inner circle, known as Coffee Rejuvenation & Aroma Police (shortform CRAP) !

  17. Aiyoo...I have a feeling that our friend Teh-Si-Peng, has some unpleasant issues to settle here and uses this blog to voice them.
C'mon lah brader, after all these years, why keep the reservoir of rage in you?
Those 4 GENTLEMEN are my friends.
Well, I just hope I'm being ultra sensitive here to have wrongfully detected derogatory connotation of the word "CRAP" used by our genteel brother here.

  18. Dear Teh-Si-Peng/Teh-Tarik Kau Kau

It's ok with the 4 of us who were highlighted ( really high-LIGHTED, as in the photo !!! )
And the caption above our hallowed heads read " Ipoh WHITE Coffee" and 3 of us were literally WHITE, as far as our shirts were concerned. Only mine's light blue. Coincidentally we were seated somewhere in the centre when the picture was taken. ( after some minor shifting )
Of course we welcome "feedback"...but when the "Teh" comments on the "coffee" obviously there will be some chemical "reactions" - it dosen't matter whether he meant CRAP or CRAB - we are mature enough ( already past 50 ) to accept it.
.....just a friendly banter, I believe. But thanks anyway, for your views.
Let's move on and look forward to our Grand Reunion. The torch has been lighted..let us ensure that we keep the flame burning....and transform it into an inferno...a Towering Inferno !!!
It's 1.18am...and Arsena's taking on Wolves....the Gunners are on a terrific run...and Wolves should be expecting a torrid time....any Gunners'fans among Class of '76 ? I believe the majority are either MU or Liverpool fans...There used to be a lot of Arsenal fans in Kuching. But the numbers dwindled after the Govt stopped firing the "8 o'clock Cannon "
    Cheers and Goodnite

  20. Dear Teh-Si-Peng.....

You are one great guy !!! I believe we all belong to one family...whether it's "teh" or "coffee"...we are family...the beverage family, that is.

    I'm sure Teh-Tarik Kau-kau will agree with this..even though he's more concentrated than us. ( kau-kau ) hehehehe.

Sure enough Arsenal gave Wolves a trashing..4-1..and MU's travelling to Stamford Bridge to face in-form Chelsea..understand that MU has not beaten Chelsea in 7 matches at Stamford Bridge. A tall order, indeed..but Sir Alex is a shrewd tactician...must have something up his sleeves. Well, the ball is round...anything can happen..

Managed to get hold of a music audio file of our School Rally - courtesy of Francis Ting (Year of '75)..he bought the CD at an Old La Sallian Charity Dinner in JB or KL (forgot the venue )Have forwarded to WSJ for his assistance to post it on our blog. ( Thanks James )

By the way, my e-mail address is sipadan2005@gmail.com
Forgot to inform Ben and Robert when I met them.

Anthony, we may need your help to locate Zahrah Ngeh. Perhaps NST may be able to reach her...and all those ex-school-mates whom we have not met for decades.

Cheers and have a great evening.

  21. Yup, I fully agree with AS on the "Teh" thing.
Arsenal fan huh, AS? Me too since Ian Wright time and the guy is now a commentator of the Gladiator UK show.
Your mentioning of Zahrah Ngeh certainly brought back my fondest memory of her when I paid her a surprise visit one Hari Raya. I bet she had the shock of her life 'cos when I got to her doorstep, she was still in her "kemban". Oh boy, did my heart skip a beat then and there because she looked so naturally lovely and fair! To let you in on a secret, it was one of my three wishful crushes in Form Six, hehehe...
Dear Zahrah, wherever you are, my best wishes will always follow you like DIGI. Semoga Allah sentiasa memberkati kamu dan keluarga dalam melayari bahtera hidupmu.
And AS, the last time I bumped into you was in a bank at Pending donkey's years ago. Glad to see that you are still fit and sharp, my friend.

  22. hey Teh Tarik Kau Kau, so out of your three wishful crushes, did any work out?

  24. Walau..Teh tarik kau kau, i know you have 2 wishes from GOD. You asked for BEST WINE and BEST WOMAN.You have the Best Wine and Mother Teresa next to you. Moral:Be more specific mah....

  25. Phai seh, phai seh Sio Kun Chui. Cannot be more specific; long time ago, now i'm oledi lau a pek,hehehe...Milo Peng, why are you so quiet?
    And Teh Si Peng too?

  26. Soi Kun Chui, shud you be Sio Kung chui or what?
Hope u do not become SOI mixing Mother Teresa with the vices.

  29. Dear Bro Josephians,

    It's 11/11 - the eleventh day of November...then December...then Remember..I mean remember the 23rd of December...the Great Reunion...as in Charles Dickens'.."GREAT EXPECTATIONS "
As expected, the support was never lacking...financially, physically...mentally and even spiritually..."The Josephian Spirit aided by Alcoholic spirits"..afterall, SJS was once a govt-aided school.
I would not be doing justice to the hard-working committee had I not pen down their exploits....as witnessed......today.
Rather than relying on Pos Laju or Post Lambat or DHL ( Dua Hari Lambat ), they opted for Pizza Hut's proven "Home Delivery" by personally handing the cards to the Teachers...Lee Hock Kia..Simon Lo...Bro Albinus...( only this time, it's Invitation, instead of Report Cards )The personal touch, so to speak...one good turn deserves another.
Bob, Ben and Robert deserve our applause for driving around town locating all the ex-year '76 teachers in Kuching.
They spent 20-over mins with Mr. Lee Hock Kia..that his neighbours mistakenly thought that St Joe School is recalling him to teach Art.( after so many years in retirement )
From what transpired during our conversation, about 6 of them will be at our Reunion. That's what we call "SUCCESS" Some of the most beautiful things in life cannot be seen, heard or touched.....but can only be felt with the heart. Class of '76 does have a BIG heart !!!
As a reward for BBR's (Bob/Ben/Robert) efforts, we had a hearty curry-rice meal at Sekama Cafe...20 mins eating and 40 mins chatting...( helps with the digestion..and drinking more water in the process )
And NST has also given our Reunion nation-wide coverage with the "33" count-down....under the tag-line.."We know what you did last summer...33 years ago.." hehehehe. And with AirAsia's tickets as Lucky Draw Prizes...wow !!!
There are also rumours that someone is negotiating with Jong's Crocodile Farm for lucky draw prizes...as part of the Reunion menu or as part of the Crocodile's menu, I guess. (surely not Crocodile Garments )Whatever it is, the enthusiasm is just unbelievable !!!...everyone just wants to contribute something...that's the spirit...Keep it coming !!!!

    Cheers and Happy reading....

  30. Tuan Edmund,

Many thanks to all the boys for the typical Sarawakian hospitality & generosity whan I was back to KCH recently. Many janjis I cannot fulfil lah bcoz too many ho peng yew invited for breakfast...mid-morning breakfast, lunch, after-lunch makan & minum, tea break, dinner, massage kaki etc... Thank you boys and allow me to return the kindness when you come to Siem Reap.

Bob Chew, Jensen, Ben Wong, Robert Chin, Dato'AM, Datuk JJ, Norbert Liew, Edmund LAS, Anthony Chung, Jude Jong and host of others, I can't recall.. Orh khoon cheran from me.

Edmund, you are the life of any party, man. We all had locked- jaw laughing & listening to your unending jokes. I think other patrons of Ipoh kopi tiam must be wondering what was so funny. I saw a few stares but who cares, we are having clean fun, right? I am sure you are ready for the Big50 night where you will be the MC, man.

Dato'AM, many thanks to you & Datin for hosting us on the 29-10-09 night at your beautiful house, although initially kita orang sesat. Even KL boys got difficulties in locating your house, what more to say guys like us from KCH and Kemboja!!. It was nice to meet the boys who are working or living in KL at this gathering. Dato'AM, what was the damage? We were supposed to tong-tong, right? The food & drink were numero uno, Sir!!

But of course, we are all waiting for the 23-12-09. Till then, take care guys, see you all soon in KCH.

    Bonne weekend
