ReplyDeleteIt was only on 27 September 1962, that the first Iban woman lawmaker (Dato Sri) Tra Zehnder proposed to the colonial government to declare June 1, as a Dayak Day and a holiday for Sarawak.
ReplyDeleteAfter Sarawak joined Malaysia on September, 25, 1964, Dayak Day was changed and gazetted as Hari Gawai Dayak.
To all my Dayak friends & classmates (males & females) - a Selamat Hari Gawai. Best Wishes.
ReplyDeleteOnly know 'nyamai' is 'song' in hokkien. 'Makai' is eat. 'Bisik' is have. 'Nadai' is none(no)

Dear all friends,
ReplyDeleteActually, I sent e-mail invitation to some that I know their e-mail addresses and hopefully & also asked the recepients to pass it on to our friends, ex-classmates & schoolmates.
Our simple open-house was held on 1-6-2010 at my parents's house at Kpg. Seratau, 15th mile Kuching/Serian Road. Those we came over were Ah Loot, Anthony Chung & family, Bob Chew & friends and Felix Lim & bini. Ah Loot tooks some pixs of the day, traditional Bidayuh gawai dance ( with pretty dayung Bidayuh of Kpg. Seratau!!) and the food. Ah Loot, plse post the pixs to our WJ OK?
Anyway, many thanks for your gawai wishes & greetings. All the best to you guys...
