Genealogy Actually

As some of you know, one of my interests is in genealogy, ie. researching into one's family history. It's a past time that I share with my father. We've been doing this for a number of years now, but more actively in the past eighteen months.

Recently we took a trip to KK, Beaufort and Kuala Penyu in Sabah, and we traced a number of "lost" relatives from the Yong tree, many of whom we never even knew existed before our trip, much less met. My late grandfather had originated from Sabah, and he had two other brothers there. Anyway, we had two seperate reunion sessions with the many cousins, uncles & aunts, nephews and nieces ... It was a most meaningful and satisfying trip.

On the way back, we spent a few days in Kuching, where we had dinner with some other relatives. One of them included members of the Lim family (Lim being the surname of my paternal grandmother). It was only then that I realised that Felix Lim and I are actually third cousins. Felix is, as many of you already know. also a 1959 lad, formerly from St Joe. In fact you might have read in earlier postings on this blog that he has kindly agreed to use his talents to add to the musical entertainment at the Grand Reunion on 23 Dec.

Robert Chin and I also found not long ago that we are also linked in the family tree.

I guess at the end of the day, Kuching still isn't that big a place, and if we trace back enough generations, almost everyone is linked to everyone else :-)
