Message from Website Jaga (Dec 2009)

Dear friends,
Firstly at the close of 2009, I felt it's timely to take stock of the reconnection status for our Class of 1976, since this was the primary objective of my creating this blog.

While we had almost 70 boys attending the Grand Reunion last week, we have actually reconnected with many more individuals - like those who could not attend for various reasons, but had been contacted via email or mobile phone.

So the following chart shows how many we have reached ...

Secondly I need to inform you guys that I've had to slightly change the way comments are posted onto this blogsite. Previously your comments were posted instantly after you entered them and clicked on "Post Comment". However, as we have seen some mischievious or malicious individuals (who I'm sure are NOT from the Class of 1976 or 1974) who're constantly trying to put unkind comments on this site, leading to my having to delete them from time to time, I've now configured it such that the comments go into a temporary area where I have a chance to check the comments first, and if it is malicious, I won't allow it to be published. I'm sure all of you agree that this blogsite is for friendly chats, sharing of memories and reconnecting old friends, and not for causing hurt or anger by stupid and insulting remarks.

Hi friends,

Just thought I'd share some information from my website monitoring tool.

Unique visitorwise, we are holding steady between 70-100 every day. Note however that the system considers a visit to be unique even if by the same person, if the time interval between consecutive visits exceeds 3 hours. If less than 3 hours, it's counted as the same visit.

Our visitors are spread all over the world, as can be seen by the next chart.

I'd like to urge those of you who still haven't done so to make your presence known at the ROLL CALL post (just click on it, or look under the June postings).

A Message from the Website Jaga

Dear friends,

I trust you have enjoyed reconnecting on this site (as well as via other channels) over the past months. It is quite gratifying to see the visitor rate go from around 10+/day in January to 30+/day in Feb to 60+/day in March, and then it shot up to 120+/day since mid April. Interesting to note that this spike coincided with when the ladies started visiting the site (or at least making known to the rest that they were also online). Our all-time high was 173 visitors on 26 April. As several people have noted, the cumulative visit counter shot past 10,000 over a week ago, and is still racing upwards. And we are also approaching the 100th posting.

I do hope you will continue to visit, participate, give feedback & suggestions, and contribute new content for sharing with your friends. And not just the boys ... I'd like to encourage the girls to also send in their news and pictures, old and new ... And tell other formmates and friends about it so the community continues to grow.

Over the past few months, a few of us have been catching up virtually via another channel - Windows Live Messenger (previously known as MSN Messenger). Some of you may be familiar with this application which allows real-time chatting. What is nice about it is that we can have more than two persons chatting. Last night we tried four. I'm going to propose a session on a much larger scale - all the classes of Form 5 (1976) ... and their friends ... meet on a Windows Live Messenger session on a specific date & time in late May. It will be like a virtual cocktail party - lots of guys and gals standing around chatting with each other. It will be very interesting. We might even serve you virtual beer, wine and cheese if you behave yourselves :-)

I can be the central point of contact and will send out the invites in early May. In the meantime, if you are not on Windows Live Messenger, you may want to consider registering (it's free anyway). Then send me the email that you have registered under, and I will add you to my contact list. Or if you are already on Messenger, just add me as one of your contacts . Update from Website Jaga

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to thank all of you for checking out our Form 5 website. Someone asked me yesterday what kind of activity level there was on the site. So I want to give you some quick updates on how it has progressed.

Since its creation in early January, I've observed an average of about 10 unique visitors each day. Over this same period, there were 10 days with more than 20 unique visitors, with 3rd Feb seeing the peak of 56 unique visitors (no clue why it spiked on that day :-). In short, we have a pretty healthy flow of visitors. (note: in webspeak, a "unique visitor" is simply someone who has not accessed in the past 3 hours. So it's possible for the same person who accesses multiple times a day, as long as with more than 3 hours intervals, to be considered as different unique visitors.)

Who are the visitors? I would assume most of them are our former formmates, with some other Josephians who weren't in Form 5 in exactly 1976 (but around that year anyhow, so we warmly welcome them as they shared similar experiences as us in those heady mid 70s years), and a handful of total strangers who have been visiting the site regularly.

Where did the visitors access from? Although the majority of visitors access from Malaysia (mainly Sarawak and KL), there have been quite a few from other parts of Asia - Singapore, Cambodia (I think we all know who this is :-), China, and the Philippines (I know who this is too!). A few others were in the UK, Australia and at least one from the USA. Then there are unexpected visitors (no idea who) from west and south Africa, and a few from different countries in Europe. So one could say we have quite a global visitor base.

More comments, contributions, feedback wanted. We have a handful of frequent contributors and commenters, but I hope the others who have been "lurking" (i.e. accessing but keeping quiet) will "say something", as we all want to hear from you. No need to be shy lah! You're among old, old friends. So please do share your stories, ask your questions, give your views ... Of course, I hope more will send in photographs and short writeups and even links of interests. Just send them to me at jslyong@hotmail.com and I'll get them on the website as soon as I can (usually within 24 hours). And also feel free to advertise your company, professional or personal websites. Don't worry, all F.O.C. !
