.
Yesterday I received an email from Alfred KK Wong sharing that he had just met with another of our old classmates Dr Chong Chi Nai in Vientiane, Laos. The last time they met was 34 years ago, probably back in the Form 5Sc class at St Joe. CCN works for the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and has been based in Manila prior to his recent move to Vientiane.
Here's an excerpt from AW's note
"I was on a short break in town and managed to catch up with him at a nice restaurant fronting the Mekong River and overlooking Thailand on the other side of the mighty river. We caught up on the good old times and must really say that time has been good to him as he really looked well and fit. He even offered to give me a tour of the city by driving around personally even though he has only been posted to Vientiane for a month.
Thank you , Dr Chong and hope to catch up with you real soon.
Also thanks for your pledge for the school desks. I will pass your pledge to BC when I fly home next week.
Alfred Wong, Form 5 Science 76"
Many thanks to Alfred for sharing about this reunion. Best wishes to both gentlemen and their families.

Great to see you CCN ! I am hoping to be able to make a working trip to Vientiane sometime soon. Been talking about it for a while but nothing seemd to have materialised so far.
ReplyDeleteHey CCN, long time no see! When you coming back to Cat Town?
ReplyDeleteWhat's Vientiane like, CCN and AW? Nice for a holiday? What are the attractions?
ReplyDeletehai WJ, who else in the Class of 76 have we not contacted and got photo of? I think we pretty much got 90 percent of the folks, no?
ReplyDeleteSeems like our buddy Alfred Wong is very good in locating long lost friends right?
ReplyDeleteAt first it was Simon Heng, now Chong Chee Nai. Wonder who's next?
Hai CCN, good to see you and was wondering whether you can still remember me.
Great to catch up with Alfred Wong in Vientiane, Laos. Vientiane is rapidly changing and a huge riverside project is near completion with expected opening on the 450th Vientiane Anniversary in November 2010.
ReplyDeleteanybody still missing? send in Alfred Wong & he will be found !!!
ReplyDeleteAnyone know where is Tham Peng Yeow (5Sc,76) ?
ReplyDeletewhat's the weather like in Vientiane now? i'm looking for a cool holiday.
ReplyDeleteTourist, you want a cool holiday? How about Siem Reap in December?
ReplyDeleteTuan Sinos said it's coooooling during that month, round 16-17 degrees. Cold winds blowing down from southern China.
So how, want to go?
I don't recall CCN. Bob Chew and I will plan to visit you one day Dr Chong provided Bob stop betting on opposite team of what Paul the Sotong has predicted.
ReplyDeleteLocals tell me that November would be a good time to visit Vientiane, particularly during the Vientiane 450th Anniversary celebrations. Temperature would be in the high teens. Luang Prabang, the historic capital of Laos is an hour's flight from Vientiane and I have been advised that it is also worth a visit.
ReplyDeleteMini-reunion in Laos in Nov, boys?
ReplyDeleteYes Sir...mini reunion in Luang Prabang or Pakse will be great...at least we have mini re-unions in the Indo-China region..1st it was Siem Reap, Cambodia, Luang Prabang/Pakse, Laos, Bangkok, Thailand ( Er...Peter, you hear me??), Yangon, Burma & grand finale.....HCM or Hanoi..where , I am sure many of you boys will love it..
ReplyDeleteTuan Jaga, apa macam? Boleh kah?
Friend,
ReplyDeleteYeah, u r right...Around Nov., Siem Reap experiences our normal "mini winter"...Nice, cool & windy but by then , it will be the peak season and the place will be swarmed by tourists, hotels mahal etc..etc...
Sinos , your idea of a mini reunion sounds brillant. pls count me in if it is on. The outing at Siep Reap is still fresh in my mind . What say you WJ ?
ReplyDeleteSounds good to me. I've always wanted to visit each and every one of the Indochina countries. So far Thailand tick, Cambodia tick, Vietnam many ticks ... two more to go (Laos and Myanmar).
ReplyDeleteHello boys, what about our Mulu trip on the 20th-22nd August. Jadi on not? Leo is still waiting for our precious answer.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry but due to work clashes, I can't join the planned Mulu trip now. Disappointed. Hope you all have fun!
ReplyDeleteDr Chong and Alfred, do share more photos of Vientiane so we can see what the place is like, ok?
ReplyDeleteMr Vancouver Chieh, are u still going for Mulu trip?
ReplyDeletePromo price of RM827pp for going to Mulu expired on 18th July already. Now have to pay RM1027 for two nights.
ReplyDeleteUp to date, nobody seems to be interested towards the trip, so most likely none from Kuching going.
Anyway, I'm still waiting for someone to go with me. My 'passport' already applied and approved.
